WhatsApp security under fire: EFF

Facebook ads. And ads spread malware. Thus using whatsapp gets you malware.

I know it's a leap but it's factual

In all the years this has not happened to me. What Malware did WhatsApp install on your device?

I have also never received an ad in WhatsApp since 2011. Not once. Have you?

WhatsApp conversation data is used by Facebook to serve you ads.

I don't have whatsapp installed anymore

Facebook will serve ads regardless of whether you have WhatsApp installed, won't it? Anyway, AdBlock on the PC, and there's not really so much ads in the FB android app. And there are no ads in WhatsApp.

cool, awesome for you. but what about the less tech savy people you chat to in whatsapp? the old lady in the neighbourhood group? suddenly she is getting ads in facebook that give her malware and by not helping to fight the problem ingrained in whatsapp in the only logical way by moving to an alternative, you helped spread the problem.
sure it wont happen now, but soon it will be common knowlage that whatsapp data is usedto help serve better ads on FB. and people will still not move, then there will be an add that installs things on your PC to help them track you for better ads,and people wont leave Facebook.


by staying on whatsapp now, you are saying its ok for all of those things. and that is why whatsapp users will suffer. just like BBM users did, remember the first BBM app and how bad that was designed and how it drained battery life? yet you still know someone who has BBM installed for some reason...

LOL. You have a seriously misplaced gripe with WhatsApp. How can you say that Facebook ads are because of WhatsApp? Don't you get ads in Facebook anymore? Sites unrelated to Facebook serve even more dodgy ads than anything.

And no, me using WhatsApp does not mean I am OK with anything other than using it because everyone else does. I'll migrate once WhatsApp is mostly useless.

EDIT: Have you received malware because of WhatsApp or Facebook?

And your BBM comparison is just schit.

I have a gripe with any thing and anyone that gains market share and then stops innovating. I moved from samsung to LG for that reason. I move from Sony to Samsung for the same reason (way back in the day)

I believe Apple does the same thing. they have a following and since the 4s not a single phone has had anything new.
Whatsapp is in there right now.
how do we drive innovation? make them loose market share, so stop using whatsapp and then all of a sudden they will catch up to telegram and possibly surpass it.

and I know exactly that Whatsapp Conversations give them add info. I talk about decks a lot. either in conversations about card games like Hearthstone or Magic the Gathering. or because of games like Legend and Accention.

the other day on facebook I got an add for wooden decking. please explain to me how that add is relivant to me? why was it in my feed? why was there a sugjested story about a deck breaking and injuring people?

LOL. So WhatsApp is not innovative enough for you. That it?

And about the ads....hahaha. If you did not get ads about decks, it would have been about something else. Do you not get ads in FB anymore, since you don't have WhatsApp?

EDIT: I just saw an ad on FB for Cell C. I never chat about Cell C, and I am not a Cell C subscriber. SChit, what can I blame for this now?
