WhatsApp security under fire: EFF

And what on this Earth makes you think that Telegram will be exempt from regulations while WhatsApp is regulated? They will be treated in the same way.
I also see that you dislike that people have choice in platforms. Quite nice of you.

I have never claimed to be nice. and Sure choice is great. but when someone does something stupid I cringe.

you know, when someone signs up whit openweb or mweb. sure they had a choice to get a decent ISP, but they chose to go with one of those.

if someone took out a contract with a Blackberry bold in 2012 when you could get an S4 for the same price, again that was their choice, but its a bad choice.

using whatsapp when telegram is an option is the same in my opinion.

I have given up.

let the whatsapp users suffer in their own stupidity because "everyone already uses it."

let them get adds on FB based on chats they have had in whatsapp.
let them complain when you need a FB login to use Whatsapp in the near future.

then when the regulation happens. let them complain the FBI is reading their messages.

the rest of us will be over on telegram, getting more smart people on there, gaining features that whatsapp users cant even understand.

its android vs Ios or MAc vs PC or IE vs Firefox all over again.there are smart early adopters who make things better and there are people who hang around because its what everyone uses.

everyone on whatsapp right now is basically like people renewing contracts in 2012 and getting a Blackberry, behind the times and too F-ing stubborn to move away from the messaging app of choice.

/rant about stoopid whatsapp users

@gif clap :D

For those that are serious about the privacy of their messages, I would suggest you look to options other than Telegram unless you stick to private chats. Telegram stores the encryption keys for group chats to make cloud sync easier.

From https://telegram.org/privacy :

Cloud Chats
Telegram is a cloud service. We store messages, photos, videos and documents from your cloud chats on our servers, so that you can access your data from any of your devices anytime and use our instant server search to quickly access your messages from waaay back. All data is stored heavily encrypted and the encryption keys in each case are stored in several other DCs in different jurisdictions. This way local engineers or physical intruders cannot get access to user data.

Signal looks like a promising alternative and scores full marks on https://www.eff.org/secure-messaging-scorecard

- Requires higher iOS version than my iPhone 4 (or Android only - don't remember).
- Doesn't have PC desktop version, it is critical for serious use.
- Features are very limited.

Telegram gives the best balance of privacy and it is a superb quality software.

Seeing as you appear to be a self professed expert on this, please explain how to make a voice call to someone in Australia.

They don't mind installing Telegram, and also have Whatsapp installed, what's the actual steps to make that voice call??

Whatevs man, let people use what they want to use.

The S4 was only announced in March 2013 and the S3 was announced in May 2012, so for the half of 2012 you could only get the S2. #mybbfactpolice

Skype can be unreliable, what if the user isn't running the app at the time?

But irrespectiveof that, Skype is not part of the discussion or question, you were mouthing off about how superior Telegram is when compared to whatsapp, please explain how to make that voice call using Telegram...

I agree about Skype.
Please explain how to make voice calls in Whatsapp. Using the latest version on iPhone 4 (iOS6.3) and I can't receive any Whatsapp calls.

Jeez, you might want to find a museum attendant and ask.

I've also found it difficult to use Telegram on a Nokia 5110, does anyone know how to do that?

I am happy from iPhone 4. You will still have to pay around R1500 for 32GB version of this phone.

Yup, always a market for antiques, I mean similar aged artefacts found in the Pyramids could be worth even more...

Someone told me they found a fossilised iPhone 4 once, but I think he was exaggerating;).

It can be operated with a single hand. A newer (bigger) one is to large, it requires both hands.
