They've now done a third update in a row stating that it's to fix issues for some people logging in. Check the app description, I think there was something about 7.5

Well I was impatient and did the upgrade anyways. Seems ok so far no real issues, however at times the screen will just cut in half for some weird reason. I have to go out and back in to fix it.

Agreed, my 920 doesn't even last a day at work with the new whatsapp

Mines actually ok now
though i wish they'd fix the scrolling through conversation history problem
its so slow and annoying :(

Shocking that people dread the thought of paying a measly R10 for a year of whatsapp service.... :banghead:

I have an S3, before that I had a Galaxy Ace and before that a Nokia E52. Throughout my time with all these phones, WhatsApp refused to charge me. A few days ago my phone notified me that my license now expires in 2014. I have no problem paying a dollar every year for such an awesome and regularly used app, but I guess WhatsApp are afraid people will ditch them if they charge.

I'm running the latest version of Whatsapp on my L920.

I have a problem in that many times, having received the toast notification, I open the app only for there to be a black screen. I hear the ding of the message arriving (it arrives a few seconds after the toast notifiaction), but nothing happens, just the black screen. I have to back out of the app and then reopen it again.

I can't remember if this happened prior to the latest version ...

i have a similar issue except my screen is gray
whatsapp has a long way to go on win 8 before its as smooth as android

I downloaded weChat onto my 920, this app runs as a background task. why cant whatsapp do the same? it cant be that hard can it?

Whatsapp has to be one of the worst apps available currently for WP when it comes to running in the background and resuming it. I have a couple of other apps that run in the background, none of them have the issues that Whatsapp has, it's quite sad that they don't seem too interested in delivering a quality app to all devices. FFS even the Symbian Whatsapp is a million times better than the WP one.

Thought I would just continue this instead of posting a brand new one.

They finally pushed out the update for this over the weekend, had to manually check for the update this morning.

Key points
-Proper background task, no longer using the music "exploit"
-Proper keyboard for the smilies, no more mismatch.
-Improved resume. Opens noticeably faster when tapping the toast notification.
-Large picture previews in the chat.
-Small ease of use things like being able to tap the persons name in the chat window to bring up their info page and being able to initiate a voice call to the contact.

I think a side effect of the update is I'm no longer getting that toast delay when it comes to the notification getting delivered before the message. Though would need more time to see how accurate that is. All in all a marked and much needed improvement.
