When did Afrihost hosting become so bad?

Signed up for an Afrihost Gold Pro Linux hosting package yesterday and I'm not impressed at all.

- The CM4all SiteBuilder, the primary reason I went for this package, didn't even work at first. When it was finally fixed, I discovered that it can only be used on the main domain and not on any subdomains that you create.
- cPanel gets very slow, sometimes hanging when I delete or add subdomains and databases. This doesn't instil me with much confidence about the hosting.
- Softaculous is responsive but very buggy. So buggy that I've been struggling to install any scripts. It installs to about 95%, then hangs, then displays a message "Oops... connection has been lost", then depending on which bugs are biting it will either continue to hang indefinitely or finish the installation if I'm really lucky.

I had one of the cheaper accounts earlier which performed much better than this "Gold" package is performing. I have since put in a cancellation and if things don't improve by month end, I'll go through with it and take them up on their "double your money back" guarantee.

TL;DR Afrihost hosting bad, stay away.

Sorry to hear that you are having such a poor experience. It sounds like there could be a problem with the hosting space allocated to you, cos we generally have very little complaints regarding our shared hosting and CM4All (which is a pretty awesome free add-on).

Of course we absolutely stand by our Double Money Back Guarantee, but we'd love to have an opportunity to try to improve your experience :(

I will PM you my account info to try to sort this out.

None of my clients who hosted with Afrihost, host there anymore. They moved most/all of their services to Web Africa or Hetzner

Still having issues. When issues are fixed other issues take their place.

The slow cPanel and buggy Softaculous seem to be fixed, but my domain was cancelled after I cancelled my account, which doesn't make sense to me because I'm still being charged for the full month, even though the product is basically useless without a domain. Which makes me wonder if the issues were really fixed to begin with.

I've since reversed my cancellation and asked that my domain be reactivated. I guess I'll see later on today when the domain comes back online if all the issues have really been fixed.
