A circle would also work but people in SA are really bad at understanding how those work so the 4 way creates less confusion.
This intersection wouldnt suit a traffic light, but it does have a high volume of traffic passing through most of the time.

They're only confusing because the authorities here have muddied the waters by having two different types with different sets of rules for each of them.

Oh, and you all cannot drive.
 
most of the time, depending on conditions,

even remember in my K53 days how annoyed people were you come to a full stop, handbrake up.
(nasty habit to have, the Handbrake part, still wont go away)

people lost their minds, even in a clearly marked Driving instruction car.
but honestly rules are for those that care in this country, people drive like idiots most days and nothing seems to happen,
we just generally have a very loose definition of rules in South Africa,

unlike some other parts of the world, where the rules are harshly enforced,
try skipping a Stop sign in Canada, see what happens,

And the authorities mostly use the wrong signs at the different circles so chaos reigns supreme...

We also have the reverse around here, yields where it is impossible to down the road you're entering.

They also do this sort of thing on some South Africa's national roads, putting solid lines where you can see many kilometres into the distance and then broken lines where it would be extremely dangerous to risk overtaking.
 
K53 taught other bad habits like turning your head fully 90 degrees left and right. Among many others.

Roundabouts in South Africa are stupid, because no-one understands how to use the different kinds. But then they have no idea what to do at a 4 way stop either.

Nothing according to people I know. They regularly complain about people just ignoring stops there too.

Almost never,
I dont wanna get rear ended

but really, if the intersection is clear, slow down to like 5,

if theres a car, slow down just enough so they can go , then its my turn
 
I've learned in Cape Town if you don't stop dead, hand brake up and engine off, you get a R1500 fine. So I stop DEAD now...
