When will iBurst drop prices...?

Why would someone want to use your prepaid service which costs R500 for 2 gigs, when they can get Vodacom prepaid 3G for R389 for 2 gigs, and a far superior product too.

A 1GB prepaid data bundle on Vodacom 3G is R289. Shaun says that the iBurst price will be R250 for a 1GB data bandle.

According to deweyzeph, 2GBs cost R389 from Vodacom 3G vs 2GBs at R500 from iBurst.

Like Gekco said "1GB bundle you mention is not on the iBurst Web site."

I cannot understand why you are complaining. OOB rates were @ 95c/Mb, this equates to R995/Gb. With this prepaid thing it is R250/Gb iBurst have effectively kinda dropped their prices by 75%. I would say that is simply amazing!

However, there is a very slim chance that this will attract "power" users.

According to the maths I learnt at school: R250 < R289. That means prepaid iBurst is cheaper than 3G - right?

To buy 1GB you have to get 2x400mb, 1x140mb and 1x50mb. That will get you 990mb for R550. For that kind of cash you can get 11 gigs of ADSL prepaid on G-Connect.

No - OOB (PPU) rates remain exactly as they were.

There is a good chance this will attract almost no users. :D

PS - Neotel has an OOB rate of 8c Per MB on the NeoGo service.

For this to be of any use to anyone it has to be AT LEAST as cheap as Vodacom 3G. Why would anyone want to use iBurst prepaid if it's more expensive than 3G, slower than 3G and doesn't have the coverage of 3G?

Epic fail.

+1

I see such a lot of people buying modems at R2 800 so that they can pay R250 a gig...

Sure as hell hope this is not the thing product has been working on for months.

I think it's more a strategy to get unused modems in use. Also, didn't I read that they would offer a 'starter kit' for R1k (modem being the only thing really of value in the 'package')?

R250/GB? bit mad to say the least. But could be useful if, for example, one needs a short-term internet solution and they already have a unused modem.... or re the 'packages', an organisation/individual in the country for a limited time period and who doesn't have an HSDPA-capable phone.

R100/GB is more reasonable for a pre-paid iburst gig. But then that would be out-of-step with their inflated regular (/contract) prices.

If this is the kind of new products from iBurst ive got no hope for increased trottle speed, local bandwidth or price drops.

Sies iBurst!

Go iBurst Product! lol....you guys are all gonna get so fired when your packages FAIL...

pathetic.. honestly i thought they might have something of use to us..R489for a 3gig cap.... what a rip.. sorry shaun moving to neotel.. my mind is made up..

R489 x 2 = R978 +R21 and it gives u a nice uncapped 2.4mbps connection and unshaped. instead of a faulty unstable 6 gig connection ..

NEOTEL UP UP AND AWAY bye all ill be posting on neotels forums from end of this month.. cya

R500 for 2 gig pre-paid (R111 more expensive than 2gig pre-paid at Vodacom). This was obviously approved by the new CEO who used to work for Vodacom

I can't believe it. What gives?

edit: I would love to see what Jannie has to say about this because I can't believe he would vouch for it. I'm lost for words really.

Ok so lets pick a from the following:
2 Gigs for R500
OR
3 Gigs for R500
I never knew Iburst was so good at marketing:rolleyes:

This "new" product offering from IB is simply outrageous. I don't know we are even wasting our time talking about it

It is obviously aimed at the thousands of credit bureau listings who cannot pass a credit check. For being on the list, you pay - in the form of stupendously high bandwidth unit prices. Or if you are Nigerian and deal in the white stuff, and wish to remain semi-anonymous - like someone said.

What is most (infact more than the offering) dissappointing to me is that both Jannie and Shaun have not said a word in the last 2 days.

I think many of us have put in time and effort with suggestions, posts and interaction on this forum to help iBurst get back in the groove with what their customers want, and how to improve their service offering. Not to mention remaining patient and help to grind through the teeting problems of a "new" billing system that undoubtly messed with many people's bandwidth monitors and web interfaces.

Is this how we are being thanked for our cooperation?

Not nice...

iBurst Product: Sir, we have thought up of a new product - prepaid. we were thinking of charging R500 for 2 Gigabytes
Jannie: Hmm...are we working in Gigabytes Yet?
IBurst Product: Unfortunately sir. but we still have the 40mb special on for the real suckers.
Jannie: very well. now lets see here....it's about R111 more expensive then Vodacoms 3.6mb/s offering
IBurst Product: Precisely. but we are going to launch a wave radio adverts which will promise "fast, stable BROADBAND for the cheapest prices around" and hope more people fall for it.
Jannie: get that other uh, indian comedian to do the voice, what his name again?
IBurst Product: Mike Naicker, sir?
Jannie: yes, that's the one. it is MOST important that you get him for the advert, because that is all that matters. If he asks for a lot of money, fire some more people from our call centre and hire a few cheaper idiots to replace 'em.

LOL, that's exactly how it went down.

I have been following this thread very closely and have also been surprised at their disappearance.
My condolences to every iburst user.
This is not what SA deserves in this new era of telecoms.

LMAO :D

Cheers iBurst :D
My ADSL got connected TODAY :D:D:D:D

And I signed up for the 10 Gigs FREE Trial with WebAfrica next month.
So that's an extra R 2500 I'm saving :D

Even it was aimed at people with poor credit histories, that doesn't explain why it's more expensive than Vodacom and MTN prepaid 3G which you don't need a good credit history to get either.

It's clearly aimed at stupid people who don't know there are cheaper and better alternatives.

I think this new offering says it all. Iburst will never be able to compete with Neotels 8c per MB out of bundle rate. So rather just leave Iburst and join Neotel so that they can expand their coverage.

All,

Apologies for being so quiet the last two weeks. For those who will understand I can sum it up in one word: "board meetings"

Let me recap what I said a few times already on this forum. My '100 day' strategy was to first address the back-end systems and once that's done, we'll relook the whole product offering. We're now on day 58.

As you know we launched the new system 2 weeks ago and while it's gone pretty well (and I know some of you'll disagree), we did (and still do) have a few issues. So this is still our focus.

So where did this pre-paid product suddenly come from? Clearly it's a big element in a network's product suite, so I asked Engineering to start building it so long and test. This is pretty much where we are at the moment and we asked the community to get involved.

It's very much a user trail with free data to do the trail. This forum has always blasted the network operators for launching products without involving them. So this is exactly what we did here. Invited people to partake in the trail, at our expense. Can't do it much better than that, surely.

Regarding pricing, in all honestly we should not have mentioned any pricing at this point in time as we're not even sure yet what it will be. We're still running the models internally.

And the many 'subtle' hints above WILL be taken into consideration. ;)
