WHEN WILL SONY ERICSSON K850i BE RELEASED IN RSA

Good idea... Just try to get the firmware updated. Been reading around and it seems like the firmware fixes some problems... Like dark pictures (Flash out of sync)

Ive decided Ill be getting it, R1500 pay in with my contract.

MTN has put me on the waiting list, and have told me that i won't have to wait more than two weeks from monday for the phone. it has been terribly delayed in SA because of extensive testing our SP's have been doing on the phone. they are concerned that the phones touch-sensitive soft-keys are going to incur them massive costs in recalling and repairing of phones. this concern is due to SE having some serious teething problems with the prototypes and the early demo models.

PS: why does everybody complain about Vodacom's "jippoware". if you hate the menu's and other software that they put on the phone go with another service provider. we do have three others... (im not a "fan" of MTN per say, so don't attack me. but they don't put any crud on their phones)

PSS: personally im tired of South Africans complaining about useless nonsense. if you don't like the service you are receiving do something about it. and if everyone did that we would have no problems in the first place
I am shocked that anyone can dare mention that South Africans are complaining about "useless nonsense". This Vodafone software "problem" is anything BUT useless nonsense. Since I am effectively paying for the phone, I have a right to get the product that I want, not the one Vodacom chooses on my behalf.

And it's not a question of just going to another service provider - Vodacom should learn that customers have the right to CHOICE . At the moment they do not seem to be in touch with what customers WANT in terms of phone customization.

Which company did you use to debrand? davinci? Would like to debrand mine as well. This Vodafone nonsense is driving me up the wall!

ya i went through davinci but im sure you can do it for free with XS++ or something. safer though davinci though. only R100 or so.

FS Hopefully this isnt one of those phones everyone is getting :/

Hate it when you get a phone and the rest of the world ends up getting it as well.
What contract? Vodacom? Pay-in?

How big is the card included btw?

Want to port my number, maybe I should send them the papers and stuff so long so they can hold my phone for me...

Some people said that about the IPOD too;)

I got mine yesterday (MTN), haven't had too much time to play with it.

I intend on posting my "first impressions" when I get a chance. If I'm honest, I'd have to admit that is has failed to meet my expectations so far.

Which firmware version did you choose with davinci?

R1CA037 CUSTOMIZED ZA/BLUE...?

And did you have any problems setting up the Vodacom data profiles? Did they SMS is to you again, or did you add it manually? The last thing I want is experiencing problems with internet access on the phone once debranded.

One last thing - does the UPDATE SERVICE work on the handset now? Or is i still not possible. Vodacom claims it is not allowed at all in South Africa even though the option might be selectable on a handset.

So basically the K850i is a big NO? That's a damn shame then cause mine is being delivered next week :(
I complained like hell for two weeks after upgrading, eventually got a upgrade reversal and took the hts s710..............AWESOME PHONE

Ok the general problems with the new stock is its slow.

My problems....

The phones big and bulky! Like using a N70, but worst. I got a cramp using it for the first few hours. Mxit and this phone dont go well together. RUBBISH! I have the N70 and its a whole lot bulkier

The buttons are not ergonomically designed. It takes ALOT of getting used to!! I used a K810 before also with small buttons, but this is way worst.
It has touch screen buttons...... If anyone used a LG chocolate you would know how crap it is.... coupled with slow software its just a pain really. RUBBISH The touch screen buttons are perfect. The other buttons are a bit small, but you get used to it. I can txt a message without looking while driving no problem.
The cursor/d-pad is not good aswell, you cant help pressing the 2 or 5 or the Touch menu button. they way to close and i have moderatley sized fingers with good direction... DUDE, do you have MS or Parkinson's or something??
The screen is BAD very bad. Very low res.Has a yellow tinge. theres dark spots in certain areas. makes the camera look bad. NOW this is just absolute excrement. The LCD is excellent.
Theres no dedicated music buttons. MAKE a shortcut
build quality is not as good as the K800 or K810... my flash is lose and when tapped the phone feels hollow. True

The music player is not as good as other SE phones.
Mega Bass availble but no where close to Mega Bass on the K750.
Poor sound quality, not on par with other phones. Who cares! Buy a Walkman phone
the camera.... ok it also depends on the FW but its not so good. I think it might be the screen to thats spoils things. Theres to much noise when viewing the pic on the phone moves slow and is delayed by 2 seconds....
You must be 50% blind
The pic on the phone is pretty normal and poor compared to the N95, but on PC they comparable. Video recording still sucks.

The Sms inbox has changed, very Blackberry now... customisable but hate previewed sms's.
Internet... till now I cant get a once of connection to the net, the first attempt alwasy fails. Mine works flawlessly...you must have done something wrong. Or you're clueless...
It has the new PSP media menu, thats cool ....

You are the reason why people get turned away from perfectly good phones......

Hehehehe cute reply... But my review is from experience and having owned almost every single top end SE phone from the days of the K700, I think I know what im talking about!;)

Btw I am still a SE fan, little less now than I was a few months ago.

Hahahaha ye I like it when SE listens to me!!
K860i to be released Q3 this year!:p
