Can anyone tell me when the Sony Ericsson K850i will be available in South Africa. There's nothing on the Sony Ericsson website and local cell network staff have no idea.I'm with Vodacom Would somebody please tell me. Surely that phone should have been here by now. (Or is the first world wiping there arses with the South African consumer once again).

Its already out in some parts of Europe although only on O2 in the UK...from previous years it should take a couple of months before Vodacom gets it for contract subs.

It's a great phone - good choice, LongQ!

Ask Vodacom3G if he can't use his 'influence' a bit... :)

Thanks guys for the swift response. It seems like the wait is on. I'm actually a SE K750i owner and this phone is working as well (battery included) as it did two years ago. So my faith is with SE. Battery life is important to me, Nokia disappoints in that department. My wife has a 6234 as well as the 8800 (which is a very nice phone, nice solid feel with that metal finish) but they're quite troublesome battery-wise.

Futhermore its heart-breaking to see all these nice phones on gsmarena.com that will never see the light of day here in SA.

Cheers

Its in testing will be out soon, I predict Mid Nov, although my predictions have been wrong this year!:p

Been a faithful SE follower for some time, the camera's on them are quite good, especially on the new K850!. What puts me off from the phone is the buttons, otherwise i'd take it.

I got a little tired of the Symbian software, the're all the same lately... so i decided to go for the HTC S710 - wasnt willing to wait for Vodacom to get the phone to this country with horrible Vodaphone jippoware on it. - time to move on.

I requested SE to e-mail me when the phone becomes available, and I received that confirmation e-mail today at 12:00 - So it's official, the K850 has been launched!:D:D:D

Just the other day I contacted smartcom and they had no idea when it was coming out and had no price lists either.

K850 release

Hi,

I phoned vodacom on 0821950 today and they said the launch has been delayd because of testing.

According 2 them it would be out late Desember or early Jan.

I have been waiting since Feb for this phone, a month or 2 more would not kill me, but would want to take it with in holiday for my photos. :(

Hope the vodafone branding would not mess the phone up, otherwise i would demand that vodacom removes it.

Cheers & happay hollidays

:D :D :D

MTN has put me on the waiting list, and have told me that i won't have to wait more than two weeks from monday for the phone. it has been terribly delayed in SA because of extensive testing our SP's have been doing on the phone. they are concerned that the phones touch-sensitive soft-keys are going to incur them massive costs in recalling and repairing of phones. this concern is due to SE having some serious teething problems with the prototypes and the early demo models.

PS: why does everybody complain about Vodacom's "jippoware". if you hate the menu's and other software that they put on the phone go with another service provider. we do have three others... (im not a "fan" of MTN per say, so don't attack me. but they don't put any crud on their phones)

PSS: personally im tired of South Africans complaining about useless nonsense. if you don't like the service you are receiving do something about it. and if everyone did that we would have no problems in the first place

Lol touch sensitive keys...

Went to the ADSL conference on Thuesday @ vodaworld midrand, and asked sony and vodacom when the phone will be available and their replay were Jan 2008.

Hope they are wrong ;( ;(

PS Istill think VC is the best network even when I complain about their service & branding. All the SP have problems. But some times they do make me

Cheers

I need/want it before Xmas:p

Yeah there quite a few phones out now I wouldn't say no to as my next upgrade. I wouldn't mind the HTC TytnII or even the N82. But I need to sell my TytnI 1st and perhaps my N95 as well. I hear guys raving about the Samsung i600 so there quite a few options and the K850i is also on that wishlist... eish... need to make upgrade every 6 months rather then 2 years. I have 3 numbers on my name, sucker for punishment hey!!!

Hmmm, nice that my upgrade comes inJan then...

I likes me that phone and I'm a SE fanboi :D

Lucky u, I could have upgraded since March.
@ this rate i am upgradeing every 2.75 years.

Think i must get a second contract 2009 so that i can upgrade every year.

Just wish we could get 1 year contracts, as is over seas. They have 1,2 & 3 year contracts.

O well this is SA :(
