WHEN WILL SONY ERICSSON K850i BE RELEASED IN RSA

I used the K850 this whole weekend.
Im not happy with it at all....

Why JK8 what's wrong with it?

Ok the general problems with the new stock is its slow.

My problems....

The phones big and bulky! Like using a N70, but worst. I got a cramp using it for the first few hours. Mxit and this phone dont go well together.

The buttons are not ergonomically designed. It takes ALOT of getting used to!! I used a K810 before also with small buttons, but this is way worst.
It has touch screen buttons...... If anyone used a LG chocolate you would know how crap it is.... coupled with slow software its just a pain really.

The cursor/d-pad is not good aswell, you cant help pressing the 2 or 5 or the Touch menu button. they way to close and i have moderatley sized fingers with good direction...

The screen is BAD very bad. Very low res.Has a yellow tinge. theres dark spots in certain areas. makes the camera look bad.

Theres no dedicated music buttons.

build quality is not as good as the K800 or K810... my flash is lose and when tapped the phone feels hollow.

The music player is not as good as other SE phones.
Mega Bass availble but no where close to Mega Bass on the K750.
Poor sound quality, not on par with other phones.

the camera.... ok it also depends on the FW but its not so good. I think it might be the screen to thats spoils things. Theres to much noise when viewing the pic on the phone moves slow and is delayed by 2 seconds....

The pic on the phone is pretty normal and poor compared to the N95, but on PC they comparable. Video recording still sucks.

The Sms inbox has changed, very Blackberry now... customisable but hate previewed sms's.
Internet... till now I cant get a once of connection to the net, the first attempt alwasy fails.

It has the new PSP media menu, thats cool ....

You making me think twice about getting the phone JK8. The slowness I expected since lotsa people mentioned the Vodafone firmware making the phone slow, that could be solved with a firmware update. I don't mind the size since I have a N73 and like biggish phones. The thing I'm a bit worried about is the screen, I haven't heard anyone mention problems with the screen before. Sony Ericsson displays are always a bit dull but if its that bad I'm gonna have to think twice.

Thanks for ruining it for me JK8 :/

Was so sure and now Im not...

When you say slow? What do you mean by that? What exactly is slow...

The slowness will be fixed soon. Its the software that can change the phone, theres aloooot of software issues, like dates not being saved, the volume keys not working, reading the calender incorrectly and general glitches, that all can and will be fixed, also the battery usage and camera and speed is all enhanced.

By slow I mean you press a button and the phone takes a while to read what youve pressed, ie if im writing a sms, if I write a 5 words sentence the little letter indicator will only be on the second word while ive already wrote 5 words...... But its throughout the menus.

This will be fixed with new software... bad thing with Vlive K850 they took out the update firmware option so you cant upgrade it yourself, unless you use the PC.

ok wel im happy i didnt read jk8's post before i got the phone, otherwise i would have thought twice. but im happy i have the phone now and those problems described are crap.

the only big problems with the phone is maybe its size, its a little bit bigger but not bad at all. the up on the d-pad and the middle touch button seem to be pressed instead of eachother every now an then but that can be fixed with more use of the phone as you get used to it. otherwise there are no screen problems, camera is wonderful. software i wouldn't know as i debranded as soon as i got the phone. (ps i used www.davinciteam.com as no other service is available for this phone atm) but the firmware i have now is fine. i havent experienced any slow menus or restarts.

any other questions just feel free to ask

I wanted to know how debranding with Davinci works? Do you first download all the firmware and then debrand or do you have to be connected to the internet to do the debranding? Could you give a step by step guide of how you did it?

oh they have actually made it very easy since you pay for the service.

just download the client (http://www1.davinciteam.com/down.html?download=client.exe) and start it up. a login box will appear so enter your registered details then login. then connect your phone in flash mode. if you don't know how it tells you. then once device identification has finished, select the software update option:

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/2598/infonk3.png

then a list of firmwares appears for you to choose from so choose your preferred one (generic one to debrand) i chose:

R1CA037 GENERIC ZA or something similar (i cant remember full name but it should be similar)

then click next and it should start downloading the firmwares.
PS i would recommend a DSL connection as you do need to download a couple of large files. i think i remember the k850i ones were around 50mb.

and then it starts flashing the phone, then its done. enjoy the phone how sony meant it to be.

Mmmm possibly... They said you want the K850 or N95 8Gb and because they know I like the SE I got the SE...
The phone works but its the old faulty firmware... no time to change it.

Hell that's quite a daming review there JK8!! Oh well, guess it will have to be the N95-8GB then... I was looking forward to a change must be honest but unless someone gives that K850i a mighty punt might have to stick with Nokia...

So all the Vodacom customers are snapping up their branded K850i's... When can those on MTN expect them to be available?

The branding has nothing to the usability or design of the phone.

Bwahaha... No seriously...

Hehehe so does branding affect the key pad layout, the d-pad, the bulkiness, the low res screen, the fact that there are no dedicated music buttons, the build quality and the sound profiles??????:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Damm JK you are really dissing this phone... haha :D

Autopage has it on MTN but not on Vodacom. Than again, Vodacom has the Moto Z8 and MTN not... probably because the Z8 is as buggy as hell.
