I saw the Nikon D40 at Game once for R4800. That is a much more modern camera. But, if you must choose between the 10D and 300D, the 10D has better construction. Don't hack the 300D. I have done that and it's very confusing. Although, the 300D has everything you need. For R2500 you could also get a new Canon 300X, but then you would have to pay for developing and scanning every time.

Here is a shot I took on the 300X:

Here are some from my 300D:

The camera can still perform. Most digital cameras look the same actually, although 300D/10D is a bit old. The new ones, like that Nikon D40, record more colour.

Pity - Game has a pretty good special on atm for the 350D with printer, memory, etc but its a couple grand more than you want to spend.

One thing you might want to take into account is that that the shutters have a limited life span - from this site it looks like the 300D has a better life expectancy but ymmy.

thanks for the info!

quite a wide range of clicks? any reason for that? think 300D will be the way to go, also considering the issue of lens compatiability, i have a 35mm Canon SLR..the developing nad printing and procedure in remembering what setting used on each shot after pics are developed is the headache.. hence digital.

I dont blame you for wanting to go digital - save yourself a lot of the hassles of film and a fair whack of cash :)

What lenses do you have for the 35mm?

Telephoto zoom lens - 100 mm - 400 mm - f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM. and EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6

lenses are worth more than my cams, swapped them for performance parts on a car!! was quite a deal..so since film is such a hassle the lenses are wasted for the moment..hence the need to go digital..and canon specifically..

Cant complain about those lenses. I took a stunning shot of one of my kids the other day with the 18-55 and any 'L' glass should be more than decent. :)

Watch the Game and Macro pamphlets for great deals on the 350D. They buy those things in bulk. Now that Canon don't make the 350D anymore there might just be a good price on the horizon.

yea i gave 'em a call and they said both the 350d and 400d are discontinued..but i doubt a dramatic price reduction is on the horizon...

It surprises me that they discontinued the 400D.

i'm only going on what the guys at game said, not sure where they get their info from.

EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 on a film body? Does that work?

It surprises me that they discontinued the 400D.

I'm surprised too. From what I read the 450D replaces the 350D, not the 400D - it's supposed to slot in between the 400D and 40D.
