Which Car to get?

What about a bottom of the range Sandero? The build quality looks much better than an Etios, The Etios will fall apart long before your old Figo.

It's not. :(

Edit: I would also like to mention, I am currently paying R1400 for insurance on my car + house hold cover. I phoned Outsurance today and they could only save me R40/m and that is including the 15% they "gave me".

For some reason, a renault is expensive to insure.

Good Day MYBB's

As per thread title. I need to purchase a cheap run around vehicle, budget is R90K MAX. I have been searching for the pass few weeks and managed to come up with the following:

1. Light on Fuel
2. Reliable or cheap to fix i.e service cost.
3. Small and under 90K Km.
4. Will be doing short trips of roughly 8 Km a day.
5. Above 2013 Model

I have came across the Chev Spark, Ford Figo, Hyundai i10 and Datsun Go.
Out of those, the Datsun has the lowest mileage and the seems to be the option to take, but the downfall is the lack of ABS, it does come with a Drivers airbag though. Relaiability I am not to sure about as well.

Would like thoughts on the above...

TIA

My colleague just got a 2014 figo for that price, with 40k km on the clock. If you can find one the those it would be a good buy.

Stay away from the Datsun, it's a death trap. Go see the Datsun go thread.

I know your issues with the performance and the aircon, what else besides that?

Won't there be spare parts problems with a Sandero? Won't there be a situation whereby you wait for a month so your spare part is shipped from overseas (France)?

Nope. Never struggled to get parts for any Renault and I’ve had quite a few, including the 2nd gen Sandero

Definitely disagree on both the quality aspects and high insurance costs.

Firstly, there are cheap plastics on the Sandero but there are a lot less than the Etios. The overall design looks better than those horrible dials and it has a much nicer radio, for example. I came out rather impressed with the Sandero I had - it’s not perfect, far from it, but it’s nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be.

In terms of insurance costs, shop around more, the Sandero came out to a lot less than half of what you’re paying, in comparison. To compare, a 2013 Koleos I had insured for significantly more than my 2011 A4 was still cheaper to insure than the Audi.

I think I should come visit you one day and then you can test the car for yourself. :)

I am currently through a broker, whom has done my insurance for as long as I can remember and she told me as well, that I will not be able to get it cheaper. I am not going to spend 46min per company, just to find out that they can't give it to me for cheaper.

Keeping in mind, I have car rental, excess waiver and home contents as well, but the car alone is like R1100,

Gotta say, I'm shocked... I do believe you 100% but it's a completely different experience to what I had with my one that had 65k km when I sold it - I did about 5k km in it.

If you'd like, I can send you my broker's details. I haven't ever been able to beat her pricing.

Please PM me the details. Paying R1400 is insane, so I will give it a shot.

Why is a Sandero more expensive to insure than an Etios for example? Does it get hijacked more?

Is a Sandero a better and a more solid built car than an etios?

To be honest, insurance cost is dependent on the person driving it, we don't know SharkBait's age , whether his car is parked in a safe or dangerous area at night and during day.

You would be more happy in a Sandero than you would be in an Etios.

My Fiesta ST was cheaper to insure, through the same broker I am using now. So, I can't tell you. Her answer was, because the parts are more expensive.

If you don't min can I have that same details as well please. It's time to start shopping around a bit.

TBH even a plastic shopping trolley is better built than an Etios.

Etios is out of the question because they do not have the decency to put the instrument binnacle in front of a driver. This is a big no-no for me.
