Which Desktop Environment to choose?

I've been a KDE guy for years now. Every now and then I try out the other DEs, but get frustrated over something that KDE allows me to do that I can't do in other DEs.

I guess it all depends on what you will be using the pc for. I have used many Desktop Environments/Window Managers in the past and they all seem to have a band of loyal followers. Best is to try as many as you can and see which one works best for you.

I use my Linux pc for a few dedicated tasks and elementary OS's default Pantheon DE currently works best for me...

I switch between Unity and Cinnamon every few weeks depending on how I feel. I was one of those people who didn't like Unity when it was first made default, but now I don't mind it so much. Different levels of customizability though, so maybe that might be the determining factor?

I personally use Ubuntu because of the Stream thing, not to say Mint won't be compatible, but I've never had any big issues with Ubuntu so I've never felt like I need to change it. I've heard nothing but good things about Mint, I would've tried it out but the fact that it's got such close ties to Ubuntu probably means I'm not really missing much. Pros of going with Mint would be that it's not as dull out of the box as some people feel Ubuntu has become over the years, but either should do fine.
 
I have been using Unity for some time, but it does have some stability issues... still prefer it to other at the moment though.
 
Unity, for those that can't desktop very well
 
Mate, Cinnamon and XFCE my preferences in that order.
Loathe KDE...
 
I installed Mint Cinnamon on a spare laptop for my daughter, but now her "finding games" does not want to install.. Those Adventure type, look for the item games.. What do you guys use to install (usually) Windows based games on linux?

Wine? Never used it myself though
 
Ok will give it a shot.
I use it on my Mac, so maybe...

All considered I guess you can always just install your preferred DE on your Ubuntu install.
Will all be part of the learning curve.

Open terminal (for me it was ctrl-alt-t):

sudo apt-get install wine

if that doesn't work:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine

-----------------------------------

Running Mint 17.2 cinnamon 64-bit dual boot.
Also running Ubuntu on another machine as main.

Not as much of a learning curve as it once was.

What issues are you referring to?
 
I like KDE it's very easy to customize and has a vast amount of effects available for download, you can make the desktop completely your own with just a few clicks.
