No its not... Plasma does use about 1.5x to 2x as much power.

Importance of aspects for a good TV image

1 - Contrast 80%
2 - Colour depth 10%
3 - Resolution 10%

An led LCD TV will give you the best of both worlds. Suggest SAMSUNG or Panasonic. Check at the supplier that the viewing angle is sufficient when you sit 15 deg off or standing up.
Also, set it up properly, with a test disc which will greatly assist with contrast and brightness

Thank you, infraction on the way. You post one 51" plasma against LED and you use that to tell me all plasma sets use more power? Fail. Obviously LED uses way less power. I never disputed that. LED uses less power, since the way the technology works, it directly means less power usage. I just told you earlier that not all plasma sets uses the same high power that they used to. Everyone jumps on the "uses more power bandwagon" but they don't really know the implications of it. Are there implications? If true, probably R5 more a month. It's a rubbish "fact" to sway people away from plasma.
My Samsung 42" plasma uses 200W.

Pretty sure you mean plasma has more contrast?

Unless you're talking about dynamic contrast? Then yes, LED-LCD wins. Hardly important though.

its exactly the same argument the people use with a dishwasher. It "uses more power" on the 65 degree setting, so they set it on 40 degrees and then the dishes dont wash properly.

what people dont do is look exactly how much difference it is. Even if the power used it DOUBLE, if its R20 vs R40 seems like a pretty flawed logic/argument lol

Yeah. I actively monitor my electricity usage and I never see the prepaid meter going down when I leave the TV on for hours and hours. I'm so sick and tired of people using this flawed argument with regards to power usage. Sure, some plasmas will use more power, but the difference is extremely negligible. TV manufacturers are also using this as a marketing gimmick. Things like "Uses up to 70% less power" and people go apes*it over it. Boo freaking hoo. That essentially means uses R5 less power per month.

You said it was rubish that it uses more. Fact is that it uses more. I never said whether it was only R5 or R500. That obviously depends on your usage. You made a comment that it was rubbish and I merely proved you wrong. It uses more. The difference will however not bankrupt you...

The power consumption on your 42" is only 200 Watt because the TV is SD and only has 2 pixels... It has a 1024*768 resolution which obviously requires less power than a FHD plasma at the same size.

Given the same size, resolution and brightness a plasma will always use more power than an LCD and LED

means f* all. if you can afford to spend thousands on a flatscreen tv doubt you gonna be worrying much about an extra R40 on the electricity bill lol
