Which modem?

G/Day all

My current modem, TP Link 8968, is giving me the gears....very erratic performance and the wifi strength is up to maggots! My old Telkom modem (D3000?) performs better and is usually more stable. I am looking at replacing the TP Link with either the D Link DSL 2750 or the Asus DSL N14 U. My main usage is Netflix and other streaming as well as online gaming (WOT) and general browsing.
Any recommendations on the above, or is there some other brand/make I should look at in this price bracket?

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I need to have the same question answered. I have a ISP issued Hauwei and it is terrible. Some devices have internet and others dont. There is constant DNS errors or this website is taking to long to load while the PC right next to it (same network) experience no issues.

I had a old linksys Wag320N that was great untill the lightning hit it. What would be a good router that can handle mutliple devices (access points, IP cam's, streaming etc). I would say just about above normal home usage. Willing to pay just need to have a good router without issues.
 
Huawei HG532F Wireless Home Gateway Router,usually sold by Telkom at good prices.

I've always been happy with my D-Link DSL 2750's reliability but honestly this Huawei one offers all the reliability and better wifi reception.I'm running two of these and one dsl 2750u currently for Internet access in different locations.

The modem part is so good that I don't even bother using my higher end tp-link AC1750 router to connect to adsl.
 
I have the N14U and it is very good. It's got decent Wi-Fi performance and is also very good if your SNR is on the low side.

If you have multiple video streams running in HD then you will need an AC router so that the wifi can handle the throughput.
 
I also have the ASUS N14U and can recommend it. I use it for streaming via wifi and have no issues, the wifi strength is way better compared to my old TP LINK modem.

Just remember to update the firmware first, and my one had the DSL settings which reduced the line speed, once I disabled that it was all good.
 
Most things will be wired. I realised not all routers are created equal.

I am currently using a Tenda D151 ADSL router which I bought for about R220 a few months ago. It uses a Broadcom chipset (BCM6318) and outperforms my Trendchip based Billion router in most areas. The WiFi range is also excellent - the ADT guardhouse across the road from my house can connect using their cell phones. This model has now been replaced by the D301 which includes a USB port and 300Mbps 802.11n wireless support. You can also purchase it slightly cheaper from Scoop Distribution if you have an account.

The current Tenda and Huawei Routers are solid in every aspect though if you can afford the Asus then I would recommend that first. I have the DSL N12U-B and it's only needed one factory reset in 3 years.

The worst modems are Trendnet!
