I recently sold my car, and am searching for another one.
My budget is R60 000 for a used car.

It is very confusing choosing a car, but I managed to narrow it down based on the price of spares, fuel consumption and general quality of the brand.

My choices are:

1. Ford Fiesta
2. Ford Focus
3. VW Polo or vivo
4. Toyota Yaris

I don't like the Hyundai i10, Citi golf, Getz or Atos.

Which of the 4 above-mentioned cars [or any other car that anyone may know of] is the best choice? Fuel consumption would be the most NB factor. I am leaning towards the Fiesta...?

Focus seems like the best bet. Also watch the insurance...car tend to disappear off student parking.

Fiesta. No contest.

Thanks everyone :)
I think it'll be a Fiesta then...just needed a bit of Dutch courage and peer-pressure ;)

Each to their own..I would hardly call a Focus a family car tbh....

and from a safety point of view, I'd rather be in a Focus over a Fiesta.

hmmm...the different stages of life / mentality are starting to show in this thread.

Still not sure how Chev figures fiesta if a focus is within reach though...

I think we are both reading between the lines here. Older focus vs newer fiesta. Fuel consumption and running costs, etc.

Edit: pls try and find a focus with low mileage and not very old for R60000 and you will know what we are talking about

Student car for R60k? Lucky bugger.

Agreed! :)
It's actually my 2nd student car.
The first was a beautiful 1972 Beetle [the REAL understanding of the word 'student'], so I'm very proud to have saved more and to be able to upgrade a bit XD :)

Don't drink and drive. Buy a Toyota Tazz, Opel Corsa or even old Ford Fiesta.

Crash those a couple of times...then buy a new car.
None of those; they're all just different levels of awful. Buy something 2 or 3 years old...
But it's also because they pay more in insurance than actual car premiums.

And the reason for that is because they crash a lot.

But from my point of view it's more financial. I don't understand why you would burn the first money you earn on an expensive car...especially if a massive chunk goes to insurance.
Whatever you decide, do not buy it brand new and try not to finance over more than 3 years.

1. I assume this is an older car with no maintenance plan and warranty.

Honestly for a student, with limited money. Toyota yaris, very cheap to run and fix. It is as bad as the others, but no really worse. Thou it is bland!

Fiesta and focus is going to cost you more in tires and other maintenance costs.

VW Beetle, it has those straps for her ankles by the doors/roof!

I need a student car too - the Fiesta is very light on petrol (borrowed one for a while). Only prob my budget is like 30-40k. Is it gonna be a mission finding one that doesn't break down on me 24/7 at that price?
