Do you use a VPN, or a browser with VPN services? If yes, which one would you recommend?

Why, are you paranoid?
Its research for a piece undoubtedly.. let's see where he goes with it.

Dear Kevin- I don't use a VPN unless I have to, in which case I use my own so that I have control of both ends of the connection. I have been using VPNs for over a decade to circumvent throttling/blocking of torrents. For all other uses, there's TOR browser.

Pity this thread has died, be nice to know which is the best VPN for SA users.
I use SoftEther for the odd occasion, otherwise TOR browser.

I use IPSec to my lab gateway to access all the virtual machines without exposing them to the world. OpenVPN is also decent, but looking at trying Wireguard too.

Windscribe VPN. So far very happy as I got a lifetime sub for about $30 last year. Speeds are good and latency doesn't increase that much.

I use pureVPN. Works well for me, love the concept of split tunneling. It is worth mentioning that some people complain about DNS leaks.

I use 1 GB free TunnelBear for the odd region-locked video on social media.

I used to have OpenVPN running on my Pi at home, but I haven't used it in a while. I probably should *ponders*

Using a VPN is awesome if only to discover how much of a better experience people in other parts of the world have on the internet. You get prompts to try out new Youtube services that aren't even mentioned in South Africa yet, better quality international adverts (well different at least -> some of those American adverts are just plain weird), and then there's the privacy aspect that gives some peace of mind.

I prefer Point to Point Tunneling Protocol because its Packet can be used to encapsulate and send private network traffic, such as TCP/IP traffic over a public network such as the Internet.

PPTP is not secure and should not be used by anyone.
