Whisk(e)y Lovers thread(II)

Damm Son. That's my hood. Did you leave any for the rest of us in the Valley?
Mine too! Not much left at our Checkers Liquor that is worth seeking out. Quality of stock has declined serioulsy the last year or so.

Are the different editions (Christmas/city exclusives) different to one another?

I have the Cape Town exclusive and it's... OK?
Yes, all the editions are quite different. The 2016, my favourite, had whisky from every active distillery on Islay. I'm not a fan of the 2018. I had the 2019 edition recently and that was quite a treat as well.

I get a lot of young Ardbeg in it.
Yeah although I'm like 90% sure it's mostly Caol Ila, when you taste more Caol Ila you start to realize how much of a chameleon Islay Caol Ila is. I actually prefer it to Ardbeg 10, it's a great peated whisky.

I haven't tried any of the other editions yet, this is my first Big Peat. Was thinking of picking up a Cape Town Edition, but might give it a skip. Although not sure what the difference is between the two, besides the higher ABV

I have the 2019 Christmas Edition, heard that one was good.

I would imagine it is quite a bit of Caol Ila as well, but to me that isn't a bad thing. Funnily I also think I prefer it to the Ardbeg 10, although haven't done a side by side, may do that this evening

I can give you some samples, I think the the skateboarding yellow man is going nearby you today anyway so I can probably get them close to you.

This arrived this morning. Usually, not a fan of blends or Johnnie Walker, but this one was exceptionally creamy and delicious. Worth it if you can get it at a good price, I think.

Oh, and had this last night. Big Peat 27 Black Edition. What a disappointment, especially at its R4k-odd price point. I found it very one dimensional, but then I do tend to struggled with blends.
