Help me decide.

Zurich duty free section is a bit meh. I already have most of the interesting travel retails which are available there which interest me. I've narrowed it down to the following:

Ardbeg An Oa - because 1L for R1k is a win and it's top 3 fave dram for me
Lagavulin 10 - sounds interesting
Caol Ila 12 - not sure, seems to be a base Caol Ila
Left field choice - JW Blender's Batch Bourbon Cask and Rye (this is the cheapest and I have the other blender's batch so this will complete the collection)

edit - leaning towards the An Oa...

Go for the Laga.

The OA is around R750 for the 750ml so no price saving..... Also the duty free version might be 40%abv versus the 750ml would be 43%.

You are mistaken on the An Oa pricing. I was chatting to Marc from WhiskyBrother at that Glen Scotia tasting I attended. New An Oa pricing is over R1000 now for 750ml. Makro has old stock they are selling for R899 and Marc is running his old stock out at R880 (6 left, having a quick look at his website). So buy now before new pricing kicks in.

Ardbeg do not change their ABV for travel retail so it will be at 46.6%.

I didn't realise the An OA has increased that much in price, the OA is a good option then especially considering the abv is 46.6%.

This is unfortunate, I mean An Oa is nice (and I would pick it over the 10 at the same price point) but it's going to be way over priced for what it is in my opinion. meh.

I must admit I'd have picked the Lagavulin 10 though just because it's new to travel retail. There's an 8 yo as a standard release in the UK, wonder if it will ever reach us haha.

I agree on both counts, the An OA is approaching Uigeadail price territory(I think, my concept of the prices are off recently) and the Uigie wins all the time.

The Laga 10 is a new addition so I'd choose that. I don't travel a lot so I always choose something that's not available locally.

Lagavulin 10 would get my vote purely based on availablity. Plus I have a soft spot for all things Islay.

^ This is good advice...

Firstly I hate drinking out of a square glass. It feels clumsy and impractical, because neither the corner or the straight section feels right.

Secondly, I do something absolutely crazy, insane and out there.....I put a ball if ice in my Whisky or even stock standard ice.

That's the way I like to drink it.

I am not a purist and neither am I a cowboy in a saloon that drinks neat, room temp Whisky, claiming it doesn't burn on the way down.

sO THE TERMINAL THROUGH WHICh (caps lock se moer) my wife had to transfer in Zurich last night had one of those schitty little satellite duty free stores that only had the stock standard boggo krap which you can find anywhere, just only in 1 liter bottles. The only thing available on my list was the Caol Ila 12 so that's what I got.

I'm the neat, room temp guy. I only ever had a few drops of water under very specific circumstances and in order to see what water does to the dram, normally if I'm trying it for the first time or trying to find additional notes, etc.

The water I use is imported from Scotland and is bottled from an Islay spring near Beinn Uraraidh which is on the SE side of the island.

FIFY....:sneaky:

Very ladidah, I must say. This is taking it to a new level indeed.
