I think @BartSimpson might be able to tell you where you can find the Four Roses locally

The Four Roses single barrels are one of my favourites - for years I would mule it from the USA. In the last year or two, both WhiskyBrother and Bottega have had some - now sold out and I failed to replenish my stock. Quad has a bottle I am hoping he does not like so that I can buy it from him.

Is this available in any of the big walk in stores? Checkers, pick n pay, Spar etc?
Not in SA. Limited release. Maybe one or two local online stores will get if they lucky.
Also it's about 180 Pounds so going to be around R4K.

Oh nice. Well I was grabbing 6 x 3 ships 5 year old to stick in the cupboard for emergencies (R169 each is very good) and this also caught my eye.

I’ve only had Suntory once at the end of a long evening spent at a whisky live a few years ago. I have no idea what variety it was, but I remember it being nice. This looks like an entry level blend but I’ve no doubt it’ll be pretty good. Can’t go wrong at the price.

I did a Masterclass with the guys from Makers a few years ago - standard Makers is between 5 and 6 years of age. More than that, not great (the reason I know this is that part of the tasting was Makers aged from 1 year to 8 years).

In recent years I have gone off the standard Makers - love 46 though. My stock entry bourbon remains Buffalo Trace or Bulleit.
Have you tried Makers Mark 101 (50.5% ABV)?

I'm trying to figure out what Whisky to try. I've tried a few over my years and nothing ever stands out for me. This is my ratings so far, maybe someone can identify a pattern I should be aiming for?

EDIT - PS I know its an acquired taste too so maybe I just haven't tried one kind long enough.

Jameson: Don't like
Tullamore Dew: Don't like
Knob Creek: Okay-ish.
Chivas Regal 18: Don't like
JW Black: So-So
JW Blue: Don't like
Jack Daniels: Not bad actually, but not great.
Glemorangie: Don't like
Jack Daniels TN Honey: Don't like

I'm trying to find something that doesn't burn as much as all i seem to get out of Whiskey is the burn.
since I don't drink often for my next bottle i thought of spending up to R1500 to find something that I can get into. My current go-to for a drink every so often is Vodka or Jagermeister.

You're really spoilt for choice in that price range and you're going to get tons of recommendations. I'd suggest you get 2 bottle, here's my pick:

you seem to be a bourbon man, so to test that theory:
- try Buffalo Trace, it's pretty affordable and good quality
- I've been told to also try Jack Daniels Rye, same price range
- Sazerac rye is slightly pricier
- if you want to go local, Three Ships with Oloroso cask finish will give you some of those sweet notes too
