It's a cheap peat. Expect what you pay for, although I have to admit it's not a bad dram. You can buy a lot worse for that money.

it's not, my last Highland Park 12 was bought from Takealot and it is indeed the Viking Honour

although doing some more research it seems with Highland Park it is not as simple as "the old bottle was better", they have some quality inconsistency in general, meaning one year's Viking Honour won't be the same as the next year and apparently that held true before the rebrand as well

kind of like Three Ships 10yr single malt where people have gotten particular about which specific bottling they prefer, I guess the Highland Park rebrand just makes it very obvious that it's a different bottling, but even within the rebranded batches there should be multiple bottlings ... Viking Honour is already a 4 year old label

The last 14 months have been a harrowing rollercoaster ride - mostly a series of near-death experiences (aka alcohol bans) punctuated by very brief moments of steady footing and an opportunity to clean-up the debris. At the end of the day, we are still proudly standing and committed to providing South Africans with the best premium range and service of whisky and select spirits and wines.

Before the chaos ensued, we had plans in play for three new sizeable projects for 2020: The first is on hold for the foreseeable future, the second is indefinitely scrapped, but it is my pleasure to share the news of the third with you.

We are proud to announce that our second retail store is now open in the Nicolway shopping centre in Bryanston, Johannesburg, located on the top level opposite the Woolworths entrance.

Like Quinn - suspect likely custom shop fitting. If you reach out to Marc via the info@whiskybrother email address to ask, pretty sure you will get a reply.

Checkers also has the Jack Daniels Rye on special for R279.

They actually have a whole range on special for international whisky day but this year the specials are running till 15 May.
