Awesome collection.
I see you hide the nasty stuff in the back row........;)

Nasty stuff and anything not whisky (Pimms, gin, vodka, rum etc.).

You are clearly not a whiskey drinker...most bottles have liquid still in them.

As I mentioned in my original post, I replace the bottles when I finish them... Like if you look in the top row I have unopened bottles of Glenfiddich and Glenlivet 12yo ready to step up as soon as the 2 on display are done.

How does the Glen Grant 10yr compare to the Glenfiddich 12yr or Glenlivet 12yr old?

The Glen Grant 10yo is really, really nice (at a good price).

Whiskey comparisons are pretty personal - it's all about individual taste.

bad news for us?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/scotch-shortage-prices_us_56da0578e4b0ffe6f8e9886d

Scotch lovers, you'd better stock up: There's a global shortage of age-labeled single malt Scotch whisky, and prices are going up.

CNN Money reports that because Scotches are legally required to age for three years, demand is now outpacing supply. It gets worse: The shortage could last 10 to 15 years.

Prices for vintage Scotch whisky are surging as a result. For example, bottles of 30-year Black Bowmore from 1964 are currently selling for around $10,000 online.

A major reason for the whisky shortage is Asia's huge interest in the drink, which distillers didn't anticipate. One-fifth of all exported Scotch goes to Asia, according to CNN Money.

The current Scotch shortage is not unlike the bourbon shortage that gave people a fright a few years ago, when brands such as Buffalo Trace realized they hadn't made enough barrels eight to 20 years earlier to meet current demand. In 2013, Makers Mark riled its consumers by announcing it would water down its bourbon recipe to lengthen its limited stock.

Fortunately, major Scotch distilleries such as Macallan, Oban and Highland Park are already ramping up their production to meet consumers' appetites. So we're not headed for a world without Scotch any time soon -- just one with more expensive Scotch.

hmm, and some of the Japanese distilleries have stopped labelling the age, the bottles say 'no age'

The age statement Japanese whiskies are quite expensive as it is, the sub-R1000 range is usually non-age statements anyway.

Maybe I'll get more some day.

Got the same Talisker (Makro special), it's almost done now.

Reading back in the thread, it's interesting how noses get turned up at what, seemingly, is perceived as perhaps 'cheaper' brands. For example, I'm perfectly happy sipping on VAT69 daily (at +/-R100) or, even better, Three Ships 5yr old (R160), which I find hard to beat as a cheaper, peaty whisky. I haven't really found that I hate any of the whisky mentioned in this thread as some people apparently do, but then I'm a whisky drinker not a whisky snob.

A whisky made by budget supermarket chain Lidl has beat off competition from around the world to scoop a top prize at The World Whiskies Awards.

The retailer's Glen Alba, a 22-year-old blended whisky priced at just £29.99, was named the best 'special release' blended whisky of 2015.

It trumped premium whiskies from more established brands, including Johnnie Walker's Blue Label Limited Release 2015, which retails for over $258 (£177)...
