Just picked up a bottle of Macallan Whisky Maker's Edition at the Duty Free in Heathrow (Love the terminal 3 duty free, they have a whole Whisky shop). Will post a picture of it when I get home.

Had a taster before I bought it and HOLY BALLS it was amazing.

yowsers, R3,400.00 at Bottleshop! :wtf:

Yeah, Bottleshop are fairly ridiculous on rare or travel retail exclusive whiskies. Marks them up quite a bit and then offers periodic discounts. Must have learnt from TAKEALOT.

So a couple of friends clubbed together and got a bottle of Ardbeg Darkcove. Interesting whisky but I prefer the Uigedail anytime, the Darkcove didn't have the sherried sweetness. What is found surprising was the Darkcove at 46.5% ABV made my lips and tongue numb compared to the 54% ABV of the Uigedail. The Darkcove was a lot more peaty on the palette, probably due to the lack of sweetness.

tried The Singleton last night, from what little I remember it was pretty decent :p

Just tasted Monkey Shoulder for the first time ever.

Wow, one of the best whiskeys I have tasted! Why didn't I discover it sooner?

I seriously don't get the whole Monkey Shoulder thing. My whisky club had it as a blind tasting mystery whisky and we all rated it as probably the worst whisky we have ever had. So much so that we now have it as the initiation drink when guests join the club.
Is it even possible that a bottle can get tainted cause we all keep seeing everyone rate this whisky but ours was and still is terrible?

I kind of enjoy Monkey Shoulder but Im very disappointed that the price shot up with R100 in less than 6 months.

Yeah the club noticed that just about every whisky shot up by R50 or R100 over the last few months after the new sin tax. Definitely wasn't just the marginal increase was a round up to the nearest R50/R100 increase...bastards.

I'm really enjoying this. Good value at R260. I'd put it in the same "class" as monkey shoulder (which I like) but they are different. Slight hint of peat on the nose. Lots of caramel bit of sherry. All round well balanced blend. Can easily drink it neat.

I've had the sinlge grain and the reserve, both VERY nice snd easy drinking whiskies. Have yet to try the signature.
