Which moronic insurance company made ownership of a PS3 a prerequisite for insurance? I know about burglar bars, gates and alarms but PS3 consoles?
Supposedly frighten off burglars, do they?
 
If the PS3 manages to hit off well, then i'll consider picking one up in 9 - 12 months time. For now, i'm all good with my Xbox 360 and monster PC.

For that price it bloody well should. Maybe even walk the dog and write a few reports for me aswell.

Yeah thats what I was thinking! Maybe a monster pc to play Spider Solitaire or Half life 1 ? IMO a ps3 is better value than an 8800gtx you would find in a "monster" pc for roughly the same price, AND games will only get better for the ps3 as it matures. All the real monster pc's costing way more than R6 300 will have to be replaced in 3 years time if you want to play games at acceptable detail and framerates. The only thing a pc has going for it cost wise is the cost of the games.
 
Lol, the problem with most PC gamers is they're still playing old games like WarCraft 3 and Counter-Strike so 6.5k would by quite a monster for those titles. New games seemed to be bought/pirated for a quick "ooo aaah, so pretty" and then quickly binned again.
 
There is a not a chance that I am going to be getting a PS3 unless I can get a 50% discount some how... R6300 is way way to much for a games console.
 
id wait awhile and give sony that chance to see if it can "fix" the console to some extent with firmware releases

Once you factor in the time wasted fiddling with a PC consoles may well be cheaper. What they have going for them is that you turn it on, put in your game and play.

That a big reason why people buy consoles. It's also what put me off pc gaming. Besides, if you buy a new graphics card today, in less than a year you won't be able to play the new games on high settings. At least with a console you know you'll be able to play all the games that gets released and not worry about upgrading it.
 
I WILL NOT be purchasing a PS3....nor will I ever purchase a PS3....they could lower the price to R10 for two and I wouldn't buy one!!! My prediction is that if Sony supplies more than 10 consoles at launch, the PS3's will not sell out but will sit on shelves....no need to run out and buy one..there will be plenty on the shelves just waiting for people to buy them.....

but then ofcourse..Sony might only release ten consoles at launch..that way they will sell out. That way they can claim that teh PS3 sold out at launch!!!

Background downloading whilst playing games for one :).. There are many things they are still sorting out. Just look at how they removed the emotion engine for the PAL release machines so now it is no longer 100% backward compatible.

I'd wait until at least the second batch of consoles for SA if I where you...

I have read that you can run Linux on it but no one is doing it by the look of it. Do you have a link to someone who has actually done it and it is working properly?

He said he'll shave off his eyebrows if you can do anything more than playing games on it. First other thing that comes to mind is watching movies... start shaving... ;)

Is there anything you can do on a PS3 Linux install that you can't on Linux installed on a normal PC for half the price?
