Why buy a 22" wide LCD?

There are a couple of threads on 22" wide LCD monitors, which are the best and so on. My question is, why do people actually bother with 22" wide LCD when they offer so little extra above a normal 19" LCD? The 22" wide only has 26 square cm's more screen area than a normal 19", that is 2cm x 13cm, not much. Is that little bit of extra screen space worth the extra money? One could almost go and buy 2 x 17" LCD's, and get an extra 40 square cm's, for the same price.

What do you think?

The 22" wide has a res of "1680 x 1050" and the normal 19" has a res of "1280x1024". The 1680 is the width on the 22", that means to compare the two resolutions on the monitors one has to use the "1050" and "1024", very close actually, do you think it is really going to make a difference?

Although 3 x 19" in a tri config is also very alluring
 
Because the higher resolution of 1680 x 1050 makes a difference and the 24inch lcd screens are too expensive thats why we buy the 22 inch models.:)
 
Plus, I don't think nVidia supports dual monitor gaming when in SLI mode. They didn't when I was running dual 17" CRTs and later 19" LCDs. However, if you have Matrox's DualHead or TripleHead, that problem can be resolved.

The 1680 is for the extra width. 22" has 26% wider screen than the 19". The resolution is 29% more than the 19", thus making the quality basically the same on both displays.
 
Playing games in widescreen you can actually see more, check out Quake4!

But the game must have native widescreen support
 
Also,

being able to open 2 documents side by side is a big Pro

also, although it is only slightly larger than a normal 19", much less of it goes to waste when you watch movies on it. watching movies on a 22" give you nearly double the surface area compared to a normal 19"
 
Apparently there was a study that the human eye perceives width better than height. That is why all new tvs are widescreen. And on that note, cant wait to get my 22`widescreen. :-)
 
Well if I never had a 24" screen I would have a 22" screen. You have to try it to know just how awesome it is.

PS - my 15" laptop screen does 1680 x 1050 ... sweetness :D
 
lol.. took me a day... now i cant imagine going anything less!
 
OK, OK, the 22" wide is a good thing, went and looked at it today, and i agree it's "nice", in a girlish type of way:D.
 
The primary reason I got my 22" is because my 19" didn't have HDCP to support my PS3.

So I got myself a Samsung 226BW and am really happy with its performance and looks in both windows and my PS3.

I'm getting the 20" wide coz hardly any 22" supports more res than a 20".
So, the 22" will 'stretch' the pixels compared to a 20" with the same res.
Diff between 19" and 20" res is big though.

Personally i think you will be wasting your money.
The 22" display area is - 473.76 x 296.1(mm) wide
The 20" display area is - 433.40 x 270.9(mm) wide
The 19" display area is - 376.30 x 301.1(mm) normal
The 17" display area is - 337.90 x 270.0(mm) normal

That 20" is just as high as a 17" just a little wider.
Remember that you will not be getting better quality because the screen is smaller, everything on the screen will just be smaller.
