when im reading my emails or surfing in landscape mode and go to the main menu screen why doesnt the homescreen's orientation change as well. its bloody frustrating. dear apple the technology exists, use it FFS.

using iphone btw

Same happens with default home screen on Android. But you can change the launcher.

All the droid phones I've used have done that by default. Do I have to jAilbreak to get that functionality? Ridiculous!

Xperia T home screen changes orientation. Get a decent phone people :p

Ok I should have been phone specific. On the Samsung Touchwhiz interface it stays portrait. I use Nova launcher tho.

As someone pointed out, this is only a limitation on the iPhone- on the iPad, the home screen goes into landscape mode, too.
I do wonder if there is a JB tweak for it..

Same thing on Android, very annoying!

It is one of the few things I miss that I had back on Symbian, everything responded to the orientation and home screens had fully customisable layouts and positioning in the two orientations.

But then instead of 4x5 icons you'd have 5x4 icons and that would break the rules.

By out of the box do you mean without you having to select it in Nova launcher settings?
+1?

Nova settings -> Look and feel -> Screen Orientation.

/I keep mine on default because I don't like it switching to landscape when i tilt it slightly.

I have the Nexus 4 and the homescreen doesn't rotate. When I got my first iPhone and realized that it also did not rotate, I was fairly upset since my iPad rotated perfectly fine.

Wanted to reach out to Steve and tell him wtf! Only problem was I wasn't sure if he was cruising around in the clouds with a harp or doing the backstroke in a great big pool of fire and brimstone. The iPhone's ability to communicate with other planes of existence is very disappointing.
