Why i wouldn't vote DA

I seriously fail to understand this reasoning. First of all, you have a party which can win by any means possible, ie Zuma. And secondly, there are FAR more ANC supporters, just by black vote than any other party. So, the ANC will win no matter what.

Here's a simple example for you;):

In MyBB Land there are 12 eligible voters.
10 are registered voters.
In the election, 6 vote for MyBB-ANC, and 4 for MyBB-DA.
So that is 60% and 40%.
Now if only 9 people vote as follows: 6 for MyBB-ANC and 3 MyBB-DA, the percentages change to 66.67% and 33.33%.
Decisions in parliament require a two-thirds (66.67%) majority. So all decisions will be ANC driven regardless of what anyone else wants.

There are only two rules in this election:

1: Do vote.
2: Don't vote for the ANC.

2/3s majority is bad, bad, bad. If we all adopt the OP's attitude, we are doomed. In five years time, we will have far fewer rights than we have now. If Zille is not your pill, vote for another party. But vote.

The DA is probably making more of an effort than any other party - so please do tell me what you would have them do differently?

Develop their own policies instead of reacting to the ANC's?

ANC: Left!
DA: Right!

ANC: Up!
DA: In that case, Down!

just to be clear i am not voting, they're all pretty useless whichever ever way this thing swings.

so heres my reason:

all i've from the DA is blah blah blah DONT VOTE ANC blah blah STOP ZUMA blah...

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW OOOH

OOOH OH OH OOOH

what the hell?? have they even given reason to vote for them except, "Dont vote for that guy"

+1000000

I've been saying this all along.Every da supporter is talking about the good work the da did,so why not run on that. The DA is playing the discredit game, they can go ask John McCain how well it worked for him.

The DA knows their supporters is more anti-Anc than pro-Da and they try and exploit that.If you want your opposition party to just oppose for the sake of opposition, then yes,the DA is for you.

They only need 50% for that. But 66.67% allows them to change the constitution.

No. Decisions in Parliament require a simple majority. Changes to the constitution require a 2/3's majority.

Or

ANC: Left
DA: Left (but we dont like the way you are turning, we can do it differently)

:D

Yes, the ANC will win no matter what, but do you want the ANC to win by a two-thirds majority? In case you don't know, if the ANC has a two-thirds majority, it means they can do whatever they want with this country, and I mean anything, they can change the constitution, change this country into a communist state, they an do absolutely anything. Yes, we all know that the ANC will win the elections, but what me and the DA don't want is the ANC to not win by a two-thirds majority. Some guy by the name of Load Acton said "power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely".

So, you are going to vote just so that the ANC doesn't get the 2/3 ? That really does not make any sense. What makes you so sure they aren't going to rig the election to get it ? The ANC has been doing what they wanted ever since coming into power. They have increased and violated their power the more the years have gone by. They are in a far better position than ever to get the 2/3, wether by rigging or no rigging. The will get their 2/3. However, I'll be surprised if they don't.

And that is my whole problem with the DA. Thank you, chiskop, for summing it up so well.

I'm interested to know where the DA plan on getting 250 000 trained police officers from.

I honestly can't reason with someone like you. Now you won't vote because it must be rigged, where do you get these wild accusations from all of a sudden?

i didnt say i wasnt voting because i was sick of the ANC. i just dont see a natural leader amongst the parties. if anything zuma would be consisdered a leader but he has his own problems

Well my friend, we live in a one party state. The ANC currently has a two-thirds majority which means they can do whatever they want. They have already dissolved the scorpions even though a lot of South Africans opposed it. Now do you want the ANC to dissolve other state institutions? Do you want the ANC to have so much power that they can change the constitution? Do you know that the ANC can, if it wants to, ban all the other parties?

This thing of us South Africans looking at political parties' manifestos and promises is really not the point, this thing of us looking at leaders of other political parties and deciding who to vote for based on that is not the point of these upcoming elections. The point of the upcoming elections is for the ANC to not win by a two-thirds majority, that's the point, forget about Dandala and Zille and Zuma, think about the "two-thirds majority", because that is critical.

I am begging you to vote, I am begging you to vote for any other party except the ANC, why? Because if you vote for any other party you will be part of the people who will take the two-thirds majority away from the ANC, you will be part of the people who will save all South Africans from the ANC changing the constitution if they win by two-thirds majority.

You haven't read the DA's policies then. End of discussion.

No, I haven't . I am only going on their advertising that assaults me when I drive down the street, or listen to the radio. And their actions since they became the DA.

ROFL @ End of discussion. Go young democrat, go!

LOL @ Good Life. I missed that gem of a post.

Yes let's all just slit our wrists because South Africa is nothing but a corrupt, governmentally rigged society.

This is so dramatic it might be up for an Oscar if someone turns into a movie.

That's why its called a policy - not an implementation plan. They would have 5 years to put it into action, and if they didn't, well then you vote for someone else; that's how real democracy works.

Don't be ridiculous now. How would we have an election if they are allowed to ban everyone from it? Last time i checked we were a democratic society.

Turning Cape Town into a world class city? Or have you conveniently forgotten that little fact.

The DA has a better track record than any other political party but all you do is whine about their posters. Very petty.

Yes, my sole purpose of voting is to solely to vote for another party in order the ANC don't get a two-thirds majority. It does make sense because according to the constitution, a part with a two-thirds majority can do whatever they want. A party that wins elections without a two-thirds majority have limited power and will find it hard to do things in SA because other political parties will fight and resist.

Don't you wanna play your part? Don't you wanna at least vote for another party in case elections don't get rigged? Or are you just gonna sit there in your comfortable chair or couch and point fingers when the ANC changes the constitution because people like you didn't vote?
