Why i wouldn't vote DA

cape town was always a world class city, so is durban, jhb, pe did you forget they exist??

i have read the DA policys, stop bringing that up ffs! you are not the only person who has read it!

i'm going on their advertising, that 70? percent of the voters will be going on

I don't know about you, but the ammonia smell from the urine in Beyers Naude square burns my eyes. Ag but that's fine, I don't mind fearing for my life when I pass Hillbrow to go to Ellis Park. And all that rubbish adds such colour to the city.

Cape Town is much cleaner and well run. You can actually use a train there! I was shocked.

You keep asking questions that you wouldn't ask if you had read the DA policies, I suspect you haven't done much homework and are just shooting off your mouth.

70% of voters going on advertising! You honestly believe people to be that stupid? I believe it was Bantu Holomisa that said posters are, in all likelihood, a complete waste of money because studies found that they do little to change a voter's mind. But once again, you suck facts you can't back up.

ROFL. We have to explain our choice not to vote DA to you?

I'll vote for my choice, if that's alright. And I'd prefer all the parties to tell me why voting for them is a good idea, rather than telling me why I shouldn't be voting for the other guys.*

*This applies equally to the DA's "Stop Zuma" campaign, and the ANC's Stop Cope campaign. Or anyone else that chooses to campaign like that.

Exactly!

So, who are you going to vote for? Some small other party that exists as a mere fart in the political storm?

You have to remember that this election will not be about who wins since it will be the ANC. It will be about who comes 3rd between the DA and COPE, whether the 2nd and 3rd place parties will form a coalition and preventing a 2/3 majority for the winning party.

Yes, go and do your homework PK. And don't come back until you've voted DA.

And now there are other parties who have now also hopped on the bandwagon. Worst ads ever.

Tell me what you stand for, not what the other party stands for.

Oh my word timgaul! You are completely missing the point of this thread. Majority of voters rely on main stream media when it comes to voting. You can call that ignorant or ill-informed. Whatever you want to call it. Point is. DA have ineffectively used this platform and it will hurt them come 22nd April.

I just assumed I was conversing with citizens who cared a bit more about this country to actually research the facts and were more intelligent than the average voter. Sorry, my bad.

You are conversing with citizens who care about this country. Once again i say this isn't about the posters commenting on this thread. We have all mentioned the MAN IN THE STREET. The average voter is where the DA SHOULD secure votes timgaul.

Just think chiskop: the DA tells you they are expanding police to 250 000, and they explain the funding and how it will be achieved.

What does this number signify to you? This 250 000? Not a lot, unless its in context of what the ANC has done. We know there is crime, but the DA will tell you don't vote for the ANC because they will keep the number at 190 000.

You can't just always campaign in isolation, you need to be told what they other parties are doing and why your decision is the better one.

just to be clear i am not voting, they're all pretty useless whichever ever way this thing swings.

so heres my reason:

all i've from the DA is blah blah blah DONT VOTE ANC blah blah STOP ZUMA blah...

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW OOOH

OOOH OH OH OOOH

what the hell?? have they even given reason to vote for them except, "Dont vote for that guy"
Quick question, how old are you?

So now you speak for the man in the streets? Once again, you are making up facts based on your theories and not actual evidence.

Get off the high horse timgaul.

I choose not to read any party's websites because that is pure, unadulterated horse****.

I prefer get my information from media sources that I trust, where the information has been filtered and contested by someone. You're welcome to do your own research in whatever way suits you. But please stop claiming that people who happen to disagree with you don't care about their country or the results of the election.

You can't just always campaign in isolation, you need to be told what they other parties are doing and why your decision is the better one.

That is exactly what we are all saying. The DA is not telling us why voting DA is better they are simply saying DONT VOTE ZUMA in their ad campaign. It's flawed. So their campaign is isolated and has no real backbone.

Let's put their ad campaign aside for the moment and be honest. Even if the DA's policies were more widely known and even though they have a good track record in Cape Town, the black majority will not vote for them as long as they have a white leader (for obvious reasons). They need a black poster boy before they can start considering winning over a large amount of black votes.
Helen Zille is in the middle of a tour of the whole country, what more do you want? Her to come and sit in your lounge and have a face-to-face?
No thanks, my crotch gets itchy around botox :)
If you don't go out there to here representatives speaking then you don't care about these elections. The DA is probably making more of an effort than any other party - so please do tell me what you would have them do differently?
That's the crux of the matter; even though they're doing all this, I see no real evidence of this if I don't make an active effort to read about it. But that's me - my question is how do the rest of SA, without the necessary resources, do the same?

That's why I personally think that the DA botched their ad campaign in the mainstream media. It's a perfect opportunity to let the rest of SA know what they've done in Cape Town and what they really stand for.

Instead they've chosen to attack Zuma and the ANC and that won't sit well anyway with ANC supporters. You've got to let them know why you think the ANC/Zuma is bad for the country, and then mention how you would do things differently. How else do you propose winning over ANC voters?
You're welcome to do your own research in whatever way suits you. But please stop claiming that people who happen to disagree with you don't care about their country or the results of the election.
Agreed!

They do, at every election rally I've been to. Or are you just garnering your facts from what the media deigns worthy of telling you?

The (DA friendly) media reports what the DA decides whats worthy to tell me.

timgaul, I think you need to understand that the DA wont appeal to everyone, and telling them to go study the DA's policies wont help.

timgaul, you're not following. I am saying that there needs to be more campaigning like this, and less "Stop Zuma".

Unfortunately, the DA's messages like this are being drowned out by their "Stop Zuma" hysteria.
