Look's pretty good imo.

People in good ol RSA have this perception that a car automatically starts falling apart after it passes the 100 000Km mark and 2nd hand car values usually reflect this.

In this case its the mileage and its a Renault.

I'm in the market for a car, R130-150k. Was looking at Ford Fiesta's and Focuses, but damn these Renaults look nice.

Its warranty or motor plan is probably about to end, and the timing service will probably be due soon. Usually around 12k to service at the dealers.

I find the mileage too low for comfort, maybe it was a lemon that was in and out of the workshop from the day it was bought, maybe just find out the history of the car and what repairs were done on it, also google that particular model's problems and see what comes up.

having said that it might just be a good deal that everyone has managed to overlook because it's a Renault.

Old 1.6 engine motor and french car's has low resale value.

The better engine would be 1.4T motor from the GT-Line!

Timing service is also kilometres/years, whichever comes first? because it's only 10000kms.

If you're interested, give them a call and verify some things with them. That mileage is suspect, 10,000km in 5 years, highly unlikely. Also, should check on it's accident history. That front bumper alignment looks a little odd for some reason, and the colour difference between the back bumper and fenders tells me it's been rear-ended (though that could also just be the photos).

But anyway:
Accident history
Service History
Repairs done
Verify mileage
Take it for a drive.

If all good, seems like a good deal - it's a lot of car for the price.

I would also suggest you get the AA to do a check over of it...

If the dealer says no, then walk away. If they agree and the AA give you the all ok, then consider it.

Not really, secondhand car prices are ridiculously high in South Africa compared to other countries. Just take a look at the UK Gumtree for example, you'll see secondhand cars selling for almost a fifth of the what they are worth secondhand in South Africa. Granted, this is because the costs of owning a secondhand car in the UK are significantly higher than in South Africa, so people usually are much quicker to offload them for newer cars and are prepared to accept less.

Agreed.

Buy a 2nd hand car, even if its a Renault, with the money you save, you can easily budget for maintenance.

He has a Peugeot... like the difference between a dove and a pigeon really.
