I'm sorry but since when are updates a bad thing? The reason the updates for BF3 are so big is because they are giving you free maps (if you got the ltd edition).

I haven't played a single player FPS since 2008, because I got the internet in 2008 and who would want to play through a hold your hand interactive movie when you can play against actual non AI opponents.

Personally, I prefer consoles for their ease of use in this regard. Not a fanboi statement, please note, but simple effeciency! Pop in disc, go. Pc - insert disc, troubleshoot, curse, download workaround, curse, install 5 million updates, curse...

LOL, you must have quite a different console from me then, because on my PS3, the first time, you insert the disc, select the game from the menu, wait for updates to download from the servers which are painfully slow (as opposed to Steam which runs at line speed) wait some more time for trophies to be installed, wait some more for the console to load up the game, and then you're finally ready for some glorious low-def, low-detail gaming.

Another rant - the game is rated 18V by the FPB. Someone forgot to mention language - it's b-a-d and a total game killer. So we've spent R400 on this game and now don't want it. Is there any way to turn off the foul language in the campaigns? Also... on my 4Mbps Mweb uncapped account, we can't stay connected to a server for long, we just get kicked. Pings are 40ms and thereabouts. A bit of googling shows a heck of a lot of players complaining of the same thing. Back to the title of my post...

EA/Origin. THIS is why I am inclined to visit a torrent first to check a game out BEFORE I spend the moolah. Sorry, but this whole experience has sucked big time!

His point still stands - consoles are easy. PS3 games always work, it's not often a game needs to update, the graphics aren't bad and speeds have picked up a lot in the last few months. I only play games on my PS3 nowadays.

A computer is just as easy. Every PS3 game I've played needed to update the first time.. And yes, the graphics are god-awful, even for 2006. It's a case of getting what you pay for.

I love the PS3 for some things, but I won't be fooled into thinking graphics are one of them. Most of the games run in 1280x720 FFS! Without anti-aliasing! It's like a 2004 throwback.

BF2 had no language issues, so it's not unreasonable to assume BF3 doesn't, particularly since the rating doesn't specify it. But honestly - why do they have language like that? Reality is very different. The airwaves are precious, shouting obscenities through your mic creates confusion, any real world soldier will tell you that.

And to add to that, Cliffs of Dover has a graphic issue - funny colours - it's a brand new PC, 8Gb RAM, ATI 1Gb graphics, AM3 etc. On top of that, we're getting PFN_List_Corrupt blue screens intermittently since the update - a problem that we sorted last time with new motherboard drivers. What a pain in the butt.

You should check out the chaos that is multiplayer! The shouting & swearing of the soldiers really add to the epic warzones, imo at least. Bad Company 2 was much the same. Most of the voices come from players around you - revives, resupplying, shooting tanks etc - the airwave chatter is pretty direct and does not contain a lot of cursing.

Good riddance? I don't get that lol. It's not a laziness thing, believe me - if you ask me, it's laziness on the part of the guys who bill you R500 for the product and deliver everything in bits and bytes without any guarantee that it will work. Have you actually tried getting support from them? I emailed them on the weekend and I still haven't had a response. I don't expect I will.

One would think that a brand new setup would work just great, but like I said earlier, it's easier for people to download a crack sometimes (not all the time), but a heck of alot of the time. Also, if you download a torrent, you don't have to feel done in when it isn't suitable - you just trash it. Of course torrents don't often end up in purchasing the real thing, but it's time for the developers to reconsider the way they go about these things. Perhaps they do, but there's no way out?

I hear you, and totally agree with people releasing ****ty quality games just for the sake of releasing something. But then you get companies like Blizzard which are so anal its retarded... :wtf:

Good example would be the witcher 2, and how the DRM slowed down the game(fps). I was running the cracked exe for ages before the developer decided it was a good idea to take it out... idiots...

point is, I refuse to buy a game right off the bat. You never know what kind of quality you are getting these days, its just too much of a shot in the dark.

try before you buy, is my motto. I tried Alan Wake, and IMHO its a hell of a lot better than most games these days... Yes its a port, but the dev (remedy) took ages to put some hard work into the port, and its a bloody good one! You would NEVER say its a console dev.

Bottom line is it's impossible to test every possible hardware/software configuration. Those they miss they fix with patches, I don't see how they could do it any other way. If you download a torrent, how it is on day one will be how it is forever.

You are going to miss out on a lot of epic games if this is your mind set. Battlefield is definitely one of them.

Persevere and you will be rewarded.

At first I wanted to say BS, but then I got your point. However you got to understand that unfornatly this was made for mass market, the market who demands phew phew in a "fashionable" american way: " hey ****, you **** " blows **** up. *shrugs* they whole cowboy thing.

The thing is 3rd world country can't really expect games to just come out and work without internet anymore. The countries in which the development houses is, has first world class access. Which also tends to make them release now and fix later. Besides downloading an expansion is nothing for them. You have however bought the game after the release of the expansion which forces you to download it now, but this was not the case have you bought it on release.

Going over to wow example by TH, well that was is 6 years old it is going to have updates as well as content patches, not forgetting 4 or more expansions. This is obviously going to be an issue for 3rd world connection, you really in all honesty can't blame the retailer. Reggies or whomever don't control our internet access or how development houses work. Expecting a game to have 0 downloads after 6 years... well that's seriously unrealistic.

In the end games is moving more and more towards online, because it fixes a lot of issues, however it obviously puts strain on the clients with improper connections.

Oh, I totally get that you can't test every scenario, but TBH you need to have a darn good support department and not just have users rely on third party public forum posts to resolve their issues. After spending the moolah I am going to perservere and see if I can get this Cliffs of Dover graphics issue sorted. Outside of that I'm going to have to rely on loads of research before I spend. Once bitten. I'm R900 down after this session and I am sitting with R400 worth of game that I don't want.

I think the marketing guys are perhaps basing their logic on 'bad' is good... the kids who are underage are longing to get into these games because of the 18VSNLP on the cover, and unfortunately 90% (guess) of them are regardless.

On the patches fixes thing... why not just let people opt to play the game sans patches (and add-ons that they have to pay for anyhow) as a standalone if they want to (like the old days). That makes more sense.

I think you underestimate how immature some gamers are. I've heard people call Rayman: Origins a kiddies game.
