I would think I have "more" rights to complain since I voted for them. They promised A and gave me B. You on the other had have no right since you didn't vote for them. You should complain to the ID

Well the reverse is also true, your posts made me determined to never to vote for a criminal like Zuma who is in bed with Malema. (and I like the Zulus). COPE is also out of the question, no difference, more of the same. The DA/ID is in the Cape, so whats left?

I came to this thread for advise to make up my mind and all I found was a pro ANC militant racist hating whites and no solution to the dilema of who to vote for.

I don't see the use of AA/BEE; all it serves is to patch over the ugly bits. The real problems are not being address from the ground up - the ANC has a problem understanding the need to invest in the future. Things can't be fixed overnight, they need time. Unfortunately they failed in this task 15 years ago by forcing the use of AA/BEE and not addressing areas like education. As such they have failed to create a non-racial equal society. (Which they will now patch over, again, with AA/BEE).

Bitter white racists, holding a one way plane ticket to another country, who don't care about anyone left behind, would most likely vote for the ANC, not the DA. Whites believe the DA would do well for the masses aswell as everyone else, the DA would have to, they would want to win the vote the next time around. Voting in a charismatic man who likes to change laws, paint himself as a socialist, and say that he is endorsed by jesus, is a very likely path to destruction if you look at history. White racists staying here will ofcourse vote for what they think is best for them just like everyone else. But whats "bad" for those whites is not necessarily whats best for you.

Just remember the AU prez supports dictatorships and thinks the problem with the continent is your right to vote. So watch out for the ruling party at the time, changing laws, squashing opposition, or controlling the media. If they implement it, they will implement it gradually if history is anything to by. Don't let them take one step. It is never in your best interest. It is only in the parties best interest.

The AU does seem to believe that there should be separate rules for developing nations, which is why they don't like first world countries criticising abusive regimes.

Luckily, it's just nameless black kids covered in flies who die thanks to those regimes, so nobody is losing much...

Ever wondered why so many people live in shacks, while taxpayers have forked out billions to provide housing? Exposed: the scary truth.

Capetonians like to brag about the beautiful scenery in which they find themselves: clean beaches, diverse flora, all topped with the spectacular sight of white cloud foaming over the imposing flat-topped Mountain.

To get to some of the breathtaking vantage points, however, tourists cannot help but notice the vast kilometres of shacks between the airport and central city suburbs.

That spectacle is made all the more embarrassing by a prominent billboard surrounded by a small cluster of fairly modest-looking apartment blocks and houses proclaiming government's commitment to housing delivery.

It's not just Cape Town that fails to conceal this type of embarrassing blight on the otherwise-pleasing South African landscape.

After 15 years of democratic rule it is an absolute disgrace that so little progress has been made in providing proper homes for the many millions of people in our cities and towns who still live in cramped, unhealthy shanty towns.

Many who call these modest shacks home are not the unemployed, disabled or elderly, but people who are lower-income earners who don't qualify on their own for mortgages from commercial banks for entry-level bricks-and-mortar housing.

They would like to live with their families in accommodation where rain doesn't pour onto them through metal sheets, rats don't scurry untamed through their belongings and where they don't have to share ablution facilities with vague acquaintances.

It is precisely these kinds of people our politicians presumably had in mind when they embarked on housing subsidy programmes and various incentives aimed at delivering formal housing to their voters.

After all: How better to improve someone's quality of life than at the very least ensure they have formal housing, clean tap water and hygienic sanitation?

Yet, brazen theft has been allowed to go on throughout the various tiers of government to the detriment of all these people - and at a tremendous cost to taxpayers.

While few will be surprised that corruption is a major reason for the lack of service delivery, the sheer scale of what has been going behind-the-scenes for so many years is so astonishing it is difficult to fully comprehend.

More than 100 law firms in KwaZulu-Natal alone and something like more than 30 000 public servants have raided housing subsidy coffers. There have been some prosecutions, but the number brought to book in connection with fraud, theft and corruption is relatively small.

At a media conference in Johannesburg this week, ANC veteran-turned-sleuth-boss Willie Hofmeyr released a report on the problem and unveiled some steps that would be taken against perpetrators.

However, the Special Investigations Unit report will be little comfort to shack-dwellers or taxpayers.

Some of the money will be recovered and, we are told, homes handed over to those to whom they should have been allocated. However, it could take many years to pick through the mess, even if there were the political will to do so.

In the meantime the systems are evidently woefully inadequate, and the culture of corruption and greed that clearly has deep roots in government will be difficult to shake off.

The authorities should start with naming and shaming the lawyers and producing a list of civil servants tainted by this scandal so other employers can give them a wide berth. Forcing undeserving beneficiaries to hand back their bounty is also a good idea, while firing public servants from the top of the protected employment pyramid should be a must.

If this wasn't South Africa, politicians would be resigning left, right and centre over such an appalling state of affairs. But this is South Africa, where we are about to vote in a president who has not shaken off aspersions on his character and undeniably corrupt Parliamentarians remain in control.

If there was ever a reason not to give politicians a vote, this is it. One wonders whether those who have been denied housing will come to that conclusion.

Most likely they have no idea why their names just never seem to get to the top of those housing queues; that it's not just the official in their local housing office that's pulling favours for his friends and family, but that the whole administrative structure is rotten to the core.

I was trying (as objectively as I possibly could) to point out that even if some of the masses vote for the ANC simply out of spite for the whites (as some suggested), if a white racist was the last white in the country, he might, out of spite for the masses, also vote for the same party. Thats ironic.

Many of these "racists" ( who leave the country because their family members got raped, they themselves lost their jobs due to bee and AA and has nothing to thank it for) Also have family here and I doubt they would enforce a bad government on them,
