Why The iPhone Is Better

... an endless war, this. Been going on for years 'n years. Apple vs The Rest.

Personally I'm a technology agnostic. These are just blerrie tools, man.

But I do have philosophical and ethical reservations about companies whose marketing makes strong appeals to narcissism.

Well said! I will refrain from participating in any more apple threads because it either goes in an endless loop that everyone already read somewhere else, or ends up with personal attacks. Same goes for xbox etc.

...let me yet again draw your attention to your months long misery with the HTC diamond you chose and the numerous threads you started on this very forum regarding the crud that is your phone.

Your [insert product here] bashing rights are revoked indefinitely:p

There is something I have wanted to say for some time and since this seems to be a pretty much BS/ playground spat thread - its probably the right place to do so:
I couldn't agree more about the numerous posts regarding Apples infamous advertising strategies. Personally I find them annoying and in some cases quite humiliating to people in general.
Having said that: the people bleating about not wanting an iPhone are probably those most susceptible to the hype - after all: no one said you have to get one!

If you want one there is a wealth of information online to help you decide or source one, if you don't... umm... just copy and paste something to make yourself feel good then get on with your lives!

Face it haters: the real problem with the hype is you!

This is a really bizarre argument... as the same could be said about the iPhone lovers. If they are so happy with their phones then why the need to so desperately defend it on this forum? Surely if you have got it and you are happy, then live with it and walk around with it hanging around your neck for all to see... Why try to convince others as to how great it is? It works both ways Slinky.

You are also missing the point of a forum like this... it is a great place to voice opinions and views. Without that this forum would be dead! Yes, the intention of some threads is to find a solution to a problem, others are there just to encourage debate and open discussion. People who have an issue with this confuse me, as this is the fun of an interactive forum.

Again read the post regarding the intention of a forum. You have a thread titled "Why The iPhone Is Better" so am I not then allowed to pop in here and see why it is better? If I feel the reason given is not a very good one, am I not then entitled to comment?

I do not have much knowledge of Macs so it would be silly for me to go in there and comment. I have done plenty of online research on phones as I am in the market for an upgrade at the moment, so I feel I can comment.

Fair.

My gripe is that its totally out of hand! The amount of times each of the regular haters has drunkenly lurched from "no copy and paste" to "no MMS" beggars belief! (as if this information was not available online for a year already!!)

...it also reeks of: "I cant afford one - you suck - I win".

The haters in this case are parading their susceptibility to the hype and nothing else - they feel like second class citizens for not having one and so they bleat and make grandiose claims about the abilities of much cheaper devices in order to console themselves.

I'd best run away now - HERE COME THEM FLAMES! :D

Ha ha I sense a post to which one could shout "troll" :)

The biggest problem I have is that most iPhone owners make these claims that all non-iPhone lovers only feel this way as they can't afford it!! Ha ha, I suppose this does make them feel better but just to put things into perspective I am looking at the following phones (prices based on quick check on Price Check as I will obviously be going the contract route):

N95 8Gb R5,500 - R7,000
N82 R5,000-R6,200
N96 R10,500
Omnia R7,000 - R8,000
iPhone R6,700 - R9,000


And in doing this it has just proven to me even more (if that was necessary!) what a rip off the iPhone is. We all, even the fans, agree it has shortcomings yet it is more expensive than most of those phones!

We talking about the iPhony, not the HTC Diamond, and how does my issues with the Diamond have anything to do with this discussion what so ever? But hey thanks for taking the time to read all my posts ;)
 
I make no claims about the iPhone, other than it is made by Apple, and is the greatest, for no other reason than it is made by Apple.

...it has less to do with this thread in particular and more to do with you having a leg to stand on when it comes to commenting on gadgets in general. ;):p

Alf if this forum didn't have rules on personal attacks I would really tell you what to go and do with yourself right now!! Read the f-in posts and see what I have said about posting on various subjects! If you would like a place where you can sit chatting to yourself without anyone with a different opinion to yours then feel free to find a mirror. If you like different points of view,arguments and fruitful discussion then accept it!
