Why Vodacom depletes your new mobile data first

What's nice about Telkom is that your older data gets used first. I transfered 1GB data to another contract and that data with it's 1 Jan expiry date, is being used instead of the recurring data with it's 1 Mar expiry date.

Why Vodacom depletes your new mobile data first

Vodacom did not give a reason for why this policy is implemented

;)

They could have at least tried, something like some of our packages are valid for only a few days, in those cases the new package has to be used first otherwise it would be wasted. We wanted to standardize across packages and as we have many low income subscribers the approach that benefitted most clients was LIFO (Vodacom, give me a job )

I have changed my data and voice contracts to top up on Vodacom and since then the data and minutes (and the gazillion unused sms s) have all used the older units first. It did stop the rush to use more data every second month.

How so VC?
You can do this but you can't fix it for your loyal customer base?
Disgusting!

No new information in the article. I also don't see any of the ads on this site either.

Disgusting!

Just to mention, these are 24 month contacts and for them to be top-up (I.e. not just open an unlimited) the voice contracts cost slightly more. My 100Gb top-up data (100 day and 100 night) contract is the same price as the open contract though (in fact 100.00 less than usual as they happened to have a special price in July 2018)

It is still rather disgusting that they cannot give all their loyal customers this (more logical) way of using the (paid for) data/minutes

I'm surprised they didn't trot out their old favourite "It's industry standard so there's nothing we can do" which is their usual defence when challenged on a policy that prejudices customers. They designed the system this way because they know full well that they are going to score from a lot of data bundles that will expire before they are fully utilised.

I have been on them about this totally stoopid policy for years and years. Roll on February 2019. Rest assured VC , you better sort this out then or the already prepared ICASA complaint will be on its way 1 minute after the deadline.

Yup this has been debated with Jannie van Zyl ad-infinitum and he always dodges questions about it...

The fact is there is and never was a good sound technical reason for them implementing LIFO instead of FIFO.
Just outright Business bloody-minded attitude towards customers.
We were always told that it would involve a major change to the OSS and BSS platforms. Yet, quietly, on the side, VC come up with new packages that DO implement FIFO ??
So, even though I have been with VC from the start, they deserve (and so do all the other mobile operators with the same bloody-minded attitude) all the vilification, insults and other things customers sling at them, for waiting until they are forced by a regulation to do the right thing.

And BTW, to hide behind a couple words in their T &C's is even more deplorable.

Why Vodacom depletes your new mobile data first

Mobile data depletion is a sore point for many South Africans, especially considering the numerous reports of disappearing airtime over the years.

This, paired with the prevalence of WASP subscriptions and other entrapments, has left a number of mobile users feeling frustrated with their mobile operators.

Telkom has the same underhanded policy, this month Telkom took 15GB from me, thus forcing me to buy data again. I think this boils down to theft

Vodacom confirmed that this is how its depletion system works, and that it applies to all of its packages.

“Vodacom data and airtime bundles follow what we call a “Last In, First Out” (LIFO) order of consumption,” a Vodacom spokesperson said.

“The last bundle to be purchased, activated and/or allocated will be the first bundle to be consumed and then any other available bundle will follow in that chronological order.”

Vodacom did not give a reason for why this policy is implemented over older bundles being depleted first, only stating that it was the system in place and stated it is made public in the terms and conditions on its website.

Extracted from the article.

To the last VC just trot out an excuse. Why? because they know, there is no foundation on which this "Policy" is standing.

And then the VC spokesman does not even know it seems that it does not apply to all of their packages.

So based on the new social media craze, we should start demanding that VC top management resigns for "lying".

and start a #FIFO?

Sho. Definitely seems VC out to screw the custy as there is no technological constraint stopping them from utilising rolled-over data first and then the current data...clever business tactics that will come back to bite them right where it hurts the most!

That’s been my experience as well. No reason I can think of to even consider using VC once the new roaming agreement is in full effect.
