mmm...maby thats why youre trying to protect yourself :)
..OR....you're working at a DECENT isp...

Lol.

My ISP hardly even registers a blip in the consumer space. We focus on business clients.

We did trial some consumer uncapped accounts but found that due to abusers it wasn't profitable.

I'm not "blabbering on" about OTHER isp's in particular....its just that i'm very annoyed with Mwebs way of operating...that's all

Now add a family of 4+ with that usage pattern and you can see how it escalates.

Exactly. House of 5. Averaging between 800Gb and 1.2Tb PM now. Most of it is Netflix and Hulu+.

If I was with MWeb still, I would have to allocate TV time to my kids. Like 1 hour a night and 3 times a week or some k@k.

On a 1mbps account you can theoretically download roughly 10 gigabytes per day.

Here are some rough monthly totals:

1mbps uncapped connection: 300 GB per month
2mbps uncapped connection: 600 GB per month
4mbps uncapped connection: 1200 GB per month
10mbps uncapped connection: 3000 GB per month

So by your estimate, what percentage over these totals is considered abuse?
Most consumer grade products are based on a contention ratio of somewhere between 1:20 and 1:10. So I'd say you're a candidate for a business grade product when you reach:

1Mbps: 100 GB
2Mbps: 200 GB
4Mbps: 400 GB
10Mbps: 1000 GB

Okay, I gotta admit I didn't read the whole thread but there are some things I find wrong with thew OP's opinion:

- Why o why should we think with the ISP's hat on? We are fukin customers, we're not responsible for their planning and calculation.

- If, for example, AH would have a higher price I'd gladly pay it if I get better internet for the money. But I don't have a chance. They told me for my 4MB uncapped connection I must pay R 397/mth, and so I do. Now they mustn't complain about my downloading and gaming habit. Which they never did, I have to give them that. But why does my connection suck so badly?

- We're downloading what and when we need it! I think we're always staying in a responsible zone, never even touching 300 GB/mth. But you all know a torrent from TPB can take some days to finish. And during that time the downloading machine does it's job 24/7 when we don't need the capacity for other stuff. I think that's totally reasonable. In some way or the other the torrent must be completed.

- Yes, wifey and me are both using our computers in the internet, so what? The line does only provide us with 4 MB, so we both know that we'll each be slower. When I'm gaming she logs out (very nice, eh?) but the connection still sucks! And that's my fault exactly why???

Because the majority of consumers care more about cheap than quality. So ISPs are forced to release cheap accounts.

You should look at Afrihost's business uncapped. Not really that much more and completely unshaped and unthrottled.

MWEB have always said this right from the start.

Home uncapped products aren't designed for 24/7 downloading.

If they were you'd be paying a lot more.
Where do they say this?

Their advert for My account said for downloading and gaming. It's uncapped so I expect an indefinite connection at 4mbps. And it's premium so un-throttled.

Does not seem unreasonable to me. If they can't give me uncapped (aka 24/7) at that speed, all the while keeping the network capacity healthy for all, then they should not be in the business of uncapped accounts. Their sneaky * are such a poor defense too!

Every single press release they had when they first launched said this.

They actually used the phrase "Unattended downloads".

I'm more than happy with Mweb implementing this policy IF and only IF it improves my overall experience on their products.

If it doesn't, then I'll also have considering movie away. Not because of the rolling window, but purely because the speed is no longer there.

LOL, so why doesnt MWEB spell out EXACTLY what they consider to be abuse of the network? Why the state secret?
