An elderly Wartburg farm owner and her son are recovering in hospital after surviving a brutal attack at the hands of six armed men on Tuesday night.

They were beaten with knobkerries, asphyxiated with plastic bags and doused with boiling water.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said the men pounced on Barbara Wortmann, 76, and her son Etcel, 45, armed with handguns and knobkerries.

“It is alleged that the men demanded money and proceeded to assault both victims. They also poured boiling water from a kettle on both victims,” said Jeevan.

Horst Wortmann, the oldest son, who lives in Durban, described the attack as “callous and savage”.

“It is a senseless attack on an elderly woman. My brother is harmless and non-aggressive. They were beaten quite severely,” he told The Witness.

I guess this is nothing new. How many times must we see headlines such as this?
I'm with Cele on this point "Shoot to kill". Criminals like these we have in SA shouldn't have rights.
 
while this is happening, our "rainbow" nation gauvamint is in the const. court defending their right to sing 'kill the boer'. what a lovely country.

Yes. There are piles (and piles) of excrement trying to defend it.

I reckon all farmers should have a couple of "rosebeds" dug and ready to go at all times. Shoot these sub-human, good-for-nothing savages, dump 'em and that's that.
 
Don't they know that just putting a gun to someones head is enough for them to give you everything.

Oh I'm sure they'll be along shortly to tell us how the stories are exaggerated and it's only this much percentage of the population being brutally assaulted and/or murdered in their on their own property.

these are hate crimes, but people are seldom rational about this. all of a sudden it's genocide and the government is sponsoring these murders and teaching them how to kill, and when Mandela dies they're going to do it in full force - and these people haev to come back to reality. posting a news article where farmers are being tortured and murdered and saying "see?! see?!? black people/ANC are evil" is a pathetic argument, and in that way i fully support Cloudster and R13.

this is a hate crime, but we're isolating this to one incident now, how do we know thet haven't done this to black couples? how do we know they haven't raped black women and left their bodies lying in fields? but black people attack white people brutally, so they must be racist.

i'm equally disappointed at black people who think a white man shooting black people is racist, as peopel look at the scenario than the whole picture
