Hi

I got billion 7300 router recently and i have been using the ethernet cable for the connection. I want to configure the wifi connection with security. I remembered when I originally connected the router and opened firefox the setup screen appeared and I went thro' the process. I stopped at the wifi setup as I did not know all the settings. I merely removed the antenna on the router and also switched it off to prevent theft.

I would now like to do the setup of the wifi and enter the security settings but I cannot get to the setup page again in my browser. The wifi is not hidden even with the antenna out cos I am able to connect to it as the router is a few cm's away I think. The manual also does not show how to get to the setup page again.

Any idea how to get the wifi configured?

If your router is being used for connecting to the internet, which I'll asume is the case, you should be able to access it by typing your default gateway address into your browser.

For compatibility, choose WPA-TKIP as your security standard and select a passphrase of at least 8 characters. That's all the security you need.

Hi quik,

Seems simple enuf. All I need now is my default gateway address. I think I went to www.telkom.co.za initially and it took me to the setup. now it does not.

Many routers default IP's are 192.168.1.1 ... worked on both my Linksys and my Netgear

Hi KSINGH,

The Billion 7300 Default Lan ip address is 192.168.1.254, when you type this address in you’re browser you will be prompted for a username and password, default is "admin" and "admin".

If 192.168.1.254 does not work, check what is you’re Default gateway as quick advised, this can be done by >>click on start >> click on run >> type "cmd", this should open a command prompt screen >> type "ipconfig /all" >>this will list you’re Local area connection with the default gateway...

Once you have access the router Web GUI,

>>Click on Advanced
>>Click on Configuration
>>Click on LAN
>>Click on wireless security
>>On the drop down box choose desired option (I would suggest WPA2-PSK)
>>Type in the shared Key
>>Click Apply and Save config.

You’re wireless will be secured now...

wow, thanks guys. i will surely do that when i get home.

much appreciated!

I must tell you(slightly off topic) how chuffed I was with networking on Windows 7.

I have 2 x PCs at home connected via wireless. I plugged out my router on my 2nd machine and replaced it with a new Linksys - factory defaults.

The other machine running Windows 7 popped a message 'new router found - please enter 8 digit PIN found below the router'. I went the 2nd machine, ot the PIN and entered on the Win 7 machine.

It set up EVERYTHING ... security, passkey, encryption and told me what the passkey was.

No - that RC version you can download for free ;)

just checked their site. will last till 2010 then your pc shuts down every 2 hours until u purchase it.

I'm planning on purchasing the day it comes out anyway - but for the time being, it goes to March 31 2010 with no limitations.

HI Guys,

I setup the security on the router a few days ago. seems to work fine. last nite I noticed the security was disabled. i do switch the router off when I am not using it. could the power off mode disable the security? I merely re configured the router security again and it was fine.

tip

Please change the default admin passwords and sid - easiest way hackers get it is because people leave it on default. also fine tune security to disable external login and other features relating to such.

damn, forgot about doing that. will check it when i get home. thx.

Once you have configured your router you should click on "save config" to save your configurations permenantly to the router. When you restart your router your security should still be enbled.

I am not sure if I did that. will double check. thx.

I could not figure out where to change the default password. I could not connect to the net last night, and forgot to switch off the router. seems like someone stole about 0.5GB last nite even though i had WPA2 security on:confused:
