WildStar

Sorry for late reply, have not had time during day, and playing Wildstar in the evenings. I'm on Ravenous. The server queue is just soooo *****. Might re-roll on another server soon. Have not claimed my boomboxes or free goodies!

I am on Zhur. The first PvP realm to open <additionally> after the initial realms. Haven't ever had a queue on this realm.

Since most of you have been playing it for a while now. Could you give us a run down of the game? Please try and compare it to WoW in teh game play sense. I would love to know the dungeon queue systems, class make up (I suppose, tank, Healer, and DPS?)
How hard is the dungeons, are they long and fun? Gear drops?.

Battlegrounds? Queue system? rewards for playing PvP are there ranking systems? Do they have end game arenas and so on.

I'm thinking of starting this game or just re-sub WoW instead. Can't view youtube videos at work or I would have tried and check it from there. Need som WoW players input :p

I'll answer what I can from my experience so far:

In short its similar enough to wow for any wow player to feel right at home but different enough to keep things fresh. Its got a vanilla wow feel to it. The combat system is quite unique with the whole telegraph system.

Dungeon queue systems

Very similar to wow. One difference is that you have to discover dungeons before you can queue for them IIRC. Much like a few Wow xpacs ago.

Class make up

6 classes of which 3 can DPS/Tank and the other three can DPS/Heal. Classes are quite different to your conventional mmo's. Example would be the engineer which is basically a Gun wielding ranged tank which has pets in the form of bots.

How hard is the dungeons, are they long and fun? Gear drops?

Dungeons are very hard. Even the trash in the very first dungeon (level 20) will wipe you if you don't know what you're doing. How long a dungeon will take depends a lot on how much you'll wipe but typically 30min-1hour if you know what your doing. Can drag out a lot longer if you don't. Gear drops are similar to wow. 1 Blue item per boss and one or two other random drops for professions.

Battlegrounds? Queue system? rewards for playing PvP are there ranking systems? Do they have end game arenas and so on.

I have no experience with Wildstar PvP unfortunately. What I do know is that there are Battle Grounds and Arenas and you queue like you would in wow.

I played wow for many years and slowly got a little bored of it. I am now only level 22 in Wildstar. Ajay has put the pve into perspective, I have not done a dungeon yet. Only just discovered the first level 20 one last night, so will probably do one this weekend.

As for PvP. Combat is awesome. It feels insane when you are in a big group deathball and there are just telegraphs all over the place. You get hit far more often than you dodge, because you dodge one and fall into another. But it gives you a cool feeling of awesomeness.
In WoW, a rogue could pop up behind you and delete you. Stalkers do not have quite as much power as that. There is basically no 1,2,3,5 combo that will delete 70% of your opponents. You can at best drop them to half health and if there is a healer around, or if he is a healer himself, then no dice.

So the damage that you do is just less bursty when compared to the health pool that you are trying to eat through. In some ways it makes healers OP because 2 healers vs 4 dps is a pretty even fight. And if those dps have no healing skills, while those healers have even one dps skill, the healers can possibly win. CC chains and player skill obviously matters a lot.

I do like that it is a little harder to train someone in PvP in Wildstar (By train I mean all people focus fire the same person.) If only for the fact that that person can dodge the telegraphs on the floor. In wow, if 3 mages all ran around targetting the same person, they would get deleted without having a chance. All that auto homing tab targeting stuff.

All I can say about the telegraph system in PvP and PvE is this. Tab targeting was awesome and how MMOs ran. Then this telegraph system comes along and adds a whole new dynamic to the skill spectrum. It is not just about range, facing and line of sight, now it is about skillshots too.

Once you have tried the telegraph system, going back to tab targetting MMOs is like whipping out the VHS instead of the blue ray player. The only reason to do it would be if the VHS offered you a movie that you loved, but couldn't find on blue ray. Fortunately, Wildstar offers everything that WoW offers and then some. You just need to stick with it all the way to 50.

Also if I really have to criticize this game at the moment it would be that the game is poorly optimized. AMD systems in particular are struggling a lot. The game only utilizes a single thread of your CPU which is a big downside for people with high end multicore CPUs.

Here's an example:

My current rig is a 3ghz Hexcore AMD, R9 270 GPU and 8gigs of RAM. I know its definitely not the best gaming PC around but I can play most games on at least high @ 1920 x 1080 with decent FPS. I'm currently running Wildstar on low graphics setting average around 30-50FPS and its drops to sub 20FPS in some zones.

On the upside Intel and nVidia setups tend to do a lot better (still far from what it should be) and the are actively working on optimization for the game (they have a dedicated team working on it)

The one thing I find for optimisation tasks like this. It is all about getting system feedback. Whether you want to or not, an MMO like this will skim off your system specs while you play. That way they can optimise more easily.

The downside from their point of view and ours, is that optimisation almost always happens after release, as they have more and more players sending system feedback that they can work with.

They had massive improvements from early beta until now, so I can only hope that they continue to work hard on it. That being said, I remember similar FPS issues in some zones in WoW, especially new zones at the beginning of expantions. It took Blizz 4 months to get Daleran to a point where it wasn't a lagfest for everyone.
WoW players just handled it because they were already WoW players. I just hope that enough people can see enough to give Wildstar that same level of leeway.

Epic feedback guys.

I'm sold :)

So where are you thinking of starting? I was originally on Zhur. But I am abandoning that ship. The PvP realms are not stable enough for me right now. I mean that from a population balance perspective. Nothing worse than running into your first contested zone and find that you are outnumbers 8 to 1. In PvE realms that is okay. So I am rerolling on Eko for now. Exile side, for the story. I play dominion on PVP realms for the badassery.

I considered ascendancy but there seems to be a higher number of non EN EU guilds on there. Lots of Polish/Italian/Spanish guilds. Eko seems to be far more English oriented, of the PvE realms that is.

So BaconSlinger of the Aurin has been created and will be powering up to 50 shortly. Right after I make a mule character and push it to Thayde

I'm especially thankful that Eko is a PVE server. Its seems to be Exile heavy. In all the contested zones I see a lot more Exiles and can only imagine how painful leveling would have been if PvP was enabled.

Yep indeed. It seems like quite a lot of South Africans are playing Exile but we've invested too much time and effort to switch now :(.
Its actually a strange balance. The guys playing dominion are all on PVP servers and the rest of us who wanted to play Exile moved to PVE, mostly Eko. I am just a little sad that we are all split up as a South African community. I see there are atleast 3 South African guilds on Eko. Would have been nice to be all under 1 banner. I suppose it also comes down to what you want out of the game.

Any Guilds on Eko Exile side?

I have serious fps problems especially in town it drops to 3 fps in some areas. Running a I7 2600K OC with a Geforce GTX 590 and I am starting to think that Wildstar is only using one of the 2 cores on my GPU that's why I am struggling.

I have a 560ti and an i5 2500k and not too many problems with FPS. Do you have at least some of the graphics settings turned down? It is supposed to be more optimised for the intel nvidia setup, which we both have. Yours is obviously superior to mine, so not sure what is happening there.

Yep, been reading up on the sites about the low fps and most people are of the opinion that its not optimized yet (which some claim is the norm for any mmo just-out). I had to set my settings to ultra low (with rendering at normal otherwise it looks crap) on a 3x 7950 crossfire-setup in order to get 40-60fps in Thayd.

-G-

Doesn't it look sad at ultra low? I have mine set to high and even v-synch doesn't help. Got 3fps in Thayd lol
