Hi guys,

I'm planning on upgrading my graphics card. I'm looking at getting the HD5770, but I'm only using an E2180 @ 2.00Ghz (can't overclock) at the moment. Would the E2180 bottleneck the HD5770?

Thanks :)

Depends. I had an Intel 6320 running on a GS7900. I upgraded the processor to a 6550 (roughly 30% more powerful), and I got around <1% improvement on the tests I did.

So while you could definitely get better performance from your 5770 by upgrading your CPU, I do not think it would be a necessity. What did you have before your 5770? I assume that the 5770 will be a huge improvement over whatever you previously had, regardless of the CPU :)

The cheapest way to resolve this, OC. ;)

Why can't you OC?
I'm using an Intel DG965SS and it doesn't have any option to OC in the bios. :(

Ya, I'm upgrading from a Radeon X1300 so it'll be a HUGE improvement.

else grab that E5200 for R450 in the classifieds. Its a very nice very cheap CPU.

the HD5770 is between a HD4850 and HD4870, that CPU would most certainly be a bottleneck, but by bottleneck I mean at most (if you like running the game with extremely low res etc) 10-15FPS...

At 2.0Ghz it's going to be a huge bottleneck. Even if you get it to 3.0Ghz it will bottleneck the 5770, unless you're playing at 1920x1080. But if you can get it to 3.0Ghz, you'll still get 30+fps in most games at max settings at lower resolutions (1360x768/1650x1050).

Thanks guys, I'll give SetFSB a shot.

A friend of mine has an E6400 (2.13 Ghz) that he said he can swap for mine + cash, would that make a noticeable difference or would the performance in games be roughly the same?
