Windows 10 still feels like a Beta

just don't like what it does in the background the whole time.

run tcpview and see...

like why explorer.exe needs to connect to MS all the time etc.


and btw, service packs are just a collection of updates made available in a pack to ease new installs. they might just call it something else now.

I doubt they will not have update collections and expect people to download updates just through windows update.

redistributable service packs are for system installers. you cannot expect 10/20/50/100 new installs to download updates individually from the start.

Well I for one don't want "Windows as a Service". I want windows as a stable OS that doesn't spy on me and demand that it be re-installed 4 times a year.

This whole windows 10 business is a watershed for me and my relationship with Microsoft.

I foresee this coming back to bite them because there are many others who neither want nor need this fundamental shift to the windows 10 "WaaS" philosophy.

I suggest Linux, or better yet, OS X.

So I assume you also use a feature phone nothing fancy like Android or iOS

Too little*

Anyways, 4GB should be more than enough RAM, Windows 10 is better optimized than W8, which is better optimized than W7 in utilizing limited RAM.

Rule_1: Windows 7 has smaller memory footprint and is faster and smoother on every machine I downgraded from Win10 (fresh install).

What is better in Windows 10, that it scales down better on the machine with only 2GB RAM. This is even more surprising to see that machine with 2GB RAM is more responsive than the similar one with 4GB RAM. It doesn't break Rule_1 though.

now I am trying to download all the updates and see what will happen. hope that will become more stable.

Hmmm, I don't agree with that at all. I find that on a fresh boot, the memory used by running processes is slightly lower, however Windows 10 uses more memory for the system cache. This memory is still listed as available and can be used by any process that demands it.
This is the way memory management should work - make as much use of any free memory to speed up the computer until another process needs it.

Windows 10 performance has been really good for me. Besides for the bootup time which is significantly faster, common application startups seem to be quicker too.

My main annoyance is the display driver crashing - happens at least once a day where the pc freezes briefly while the display driver recovers.
Windows 10 handles crashes much quicker and better than Windows 7, but they shouldn't be happening in the first place.

If you haven't done so, update your driver from your manufacture's web site.

Even worse than Windows Vista?

I love using Windows 10, apart from the few issues I have run into (3G modem, RealTek Sound Issue). Windows 10 does use more memory than Windows 7 and 8 / 8.1 - hell, I started seeing 6GB RAM was not enough - my system ran smoother with an upgrade to 8GB RAM.
 
Thank you DreamKing for helping solve one of my big problems with W10. Not being a fundi like many of you I have been battling to sort out a few problems I had when upgrading from Windows 7 to W10 not the least of which is that my laptop screen brightness and it's control all but dissapeared. I received many words of advice from experts including the help desk at HP ( I have an HP Pavilion dv7) and common answer was that my LED backlight had failed and my screen would need to be replaced at great cost I might add. I did find a techie in George who said it was not the screen and he could fix it. I took it to him and indeed he did fix it but the fix only lasted 1 day then I was back to square one again. So I bought a Samsung 20" monitor which I have been using thinking I would wait till I travel to the big city to get my screen problem repaired. Finally I read DreamKing's fix which I carried out and whalla! back to normal. Thank you myB and DreamKing!
