just don't like what it does in the background the whole time.

like why explorer.exe needs to connect to MS all the time etc.
and btw, service packs are just a collection of updates made available in a pack to ease new installs. they might just call it something else now.
I doubt they will not have update collections and expect people to download updates just through windows update.
redistributable service packs are for system installers. you cannot expect 10/20/50/100 new installs to download updates individually from the start.
