Windows 10 still feels like a Beta

I found the problem now I think.

last night, I used "system restore". It fixed. :eek:.

then I put the net on, then I saw it was updating the "windows defender", then after I switched off and on, then it was not working again. :mad:

so the problem is the "automatic update", how can I switch it off?
 
I am loving Windows 10, running geniune version, fully updated, genuine office, adobe creative cloud, and have
a fairly powerful pc. i7 + 16gb ram. Quite loving the experience and Windows 10. Windows 8 was ****e, but im loving this.
 
There is no non-geniune version of Windows 10. It is either activated or not activated.

Yeah, my machine basically dies each time there is a windows update, e.g. WiFi keeps dcing, sometimes the start menu/cortana die, etc. Just reboot and windows installs its updates and all is well again.
 
So is Windows 10 ready for a professional PC? I'm happy to put it on an old laptop to play with, but I'm think about putting it on my PC that has Windows 8.1 on.

I run 3D applications (mostly Maya, goodnight sweet prince Softimage) and stuff like Photoshop so stability and driver support is pretty important to me.

IMHO, no. Stability has not been my experience with windows 10, and that's having experienced it on +/- 12 different pc's (mine and clients).

Eh, that sucks. Is it still possible to get older Windows on request? My wife's looking for a new laptop at the moment so it could actually affect her badly. I know when 8 came out a lot of places kept shipping 7.
 
That sort of thing doesn't void warranties and whatnot right? It's not a hardware change afterall.

User with legitimate copy of Windows 8 should be able legally downgrade to Win7 (as reverse is fully supported by Microsoft and is free). So if you install Windows 7 (Ultimate/Home whichever is appropriate), and DAZ you don't commit any crime.

I've now been through the process of updating all my systems to Th2. The three desktops and three of the laptops went smoothly and without issue. Over the last week I've tackled the Nextbook 8 and an Acer 10E, and both are unsatisfactory.

I eventually managed to do a clean install of Th2 on the Nextbook, but now it won't auto-rotate. The onboard storage is a piffling 16GB so I couldn't do an in-place upgrade of the November 1511 update. The clean install doesn't have all the Nextbook drivers, so I might go back to the factory recovery partition, sadly.

The Acer 10E, which is purely a touch screen media player sitting on the amp, won't install the 1511 update - hangs at 40%. I haven't had the time to research and fiddle for a workaround, so I just rolled back to 10240 and left it. Will take a look again next year.

Recover to factory partition, upgrade using iso on memory card or usb drive. Also you may want to remove your memory card if during the upgrade it hangs.

I managed to upgrade my Sansui tab like that, with 16gb onboard, installing apps to the memory card is awesome.

It's obviously not common knowledge that with Windows 10 you won't ever see Service Packs. That old paradigm has been dropped. It's now just continuous updates. The name for that is WaaS.

Do it entitle to supply unfinished, partially working product? If you were just adding features you could say WaaS. If it were a fully tested product, you wouldn't need to force updates as you do on the unsuspected users.
Come on, it is second official release. Still in pre-beta, not WaaS.
 
Fujitsu Laptop seems to be ok on Win10 but my Dell Inspiron One doesnt like it most recent error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
Happened just after rebooting from an Update and would just keep on Rebooting due to errors had to use the Restore to Wipe all Apps but keep my Data atleast...

Of course not. No vendor likes or wants to supply "unfinished, partially working" product. But every single vendor does. There isn't a single piece of software on earth written by human beings that is perfect.

I am just as frustrated as anyone else when things don't work as one expects. But I know enough about human beings and the world to not expect perfection. And I know enough about Microsoft on the inside to say with 100% confidence that you will not find a more dedicated and committed group of people who's passion it is to design, code, and deliver the best software they possibly can. Sure there are some issues here, and that's not being denied. Knowing the company as I do, I'm pretty confident that the bugs and gremlins are being relentlessly tracked down and squashed.

If you're not comfortable with this, stay on a previous version, or switch to something else. But going on and on and on and on and on accusing Microsoft of bad faith is getting wearisome.

There is a difference between "likes or wants" and actually supplying such unfinished product.
