Windows 10: The Next Chapter

The only issue I've found is that my trusty Microsoft Photodraw 2000 from 14 years ago won't save edited graphics to JPG. The same issue was there in the first public beta and it worked OK in the next. I'm hoping all works fine in the RTM version.

Is there thread on MS Hologram around here somewhere?

Looks interesting.
Paul Thurrott actually experienced the glasses. Hear his comments in this video, from 47:20 onwards. He's a bit of a cynic, but he was blown away.

I see the Compatibility Modes available in Windows 10 Preview are Windows Vista, 7 and 8.

Windows Vista. W.T.F

Looks like the thinking behind Surface and Kinect finally reached a critical point culminating in this.

Interesting that Microsoft appears to be ahead of Oculus here

Microsoft owns the hardware and software, there's no way that Oculus will ever be able to compete with them.

Different market altogether as well....

Oculus is VR which I see being a bit of a "niche" product, since it aims to immerse you entirely in a virtual world.

Hololens is AR which I see being much more mainstream since it overlays stuff onto your normal reality.

Anyone having network issues?

I have my HTPC running Windows 7 on the network, and use to be able to connect via my Windows 10 pc to those shared network drives. I now have two PC's connected to the network (laptop and pc) one via LAN and one via Wifi. Both can't get to the server, and obviously nothing have changed on the Windows 7 PC.

Advice?

SOLVED!

Using REGEDIT it's necessary to create a DWORD value called 'AllowInsecureGuestAuth' in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters and set this new value to 1. (If it doesn't work, reboot and test again. Mine worked without restart)

Guess I'm joining you guys, not necessarily because I wanted too ... :p

I got a 250 GB SSD today and in the process of cloning the 60 GB SSD to it the cloning failed and now the 60 GB isn't bootable. My Windows 7 disk is at the office in Cape Town, so I can't get it.

So I've installed Win 10 with the AMD and Logitech drivers and I'm busy downloading BF4. 10 Hours to go.

So far it's been painless and I'm rather liking it. Only hassle so far is I had to unplug and replug my joystick for it to recognise it.

Careful...once you start using Windows 10, Windows 7 might just feel very..."old".

I've already erased any trace of Windows 8 from all my computers.

Anyone else been having trouble with the Store app, as well as the weather app?? I get this error quite often:

win10storeError.jpg

My Store app works fine, but just refuses to let me download anything, cos I'm using a local account.

12/10 for that error message "We all have bad days", humour is definitely not something you associated with Microsoft in the past. :D

I'm really starting to like the new team at Microsoft.

Just watched a few videos about Microsoft HoloLens again - it is SO flippin cool!

Can see myself playing with it for hours. :D

EDIT: I made a rather weird discovery this morning. It appears my Windows Store only works over a Wi-Fi connection. When I use a mobile data connection (my 3G stick), it gives me that "Server Stumbled" error.

Even though I can now access the app store, I cant download anything without it returning some error, and apps don't seem to be downloading.

I wonder how much the HoloLens are going to cost, and if it is going to release worldwide or just in a few markets? Those HoloLens are freaking amazing!! I would love to be running my apps on that.... sending emails and texts, watching video's on the HoloLens!!

I suspect HoloLens won't be that expensive, I reckon Microsoft might use it as an additional incentive to move over to Windows 10, and make money on the hardware.

Nah, I think it will be expensive. The "free upgrade" is what they are using to get people upgrading.

Quick question -keeping in mind I haven't really watched any of the new Win 10 stuffs:

Will there be different versions/types of Windows 10?
(As in, you used to get Win 7 Basic, Prof, Ultimate, etc, etc.)
