Windows 11 Support Thread

Did an upgrade on my AMD 5600X yesterday morning. The upgrade went smoothly (have a full backup on standby, just in case) Everything is running fine, except that I don't like the new task bar and menu. Ii's ridiculous that they remove functionality that millions of people were using.

After some research, I installed an app called SideSwipe, to recreate an alternative set of groups of icons for my numerous apps. I still need to find a way to expand the task bar to show more than one instance of eg Explorer.

ExplorerPatcher ?

It's optional but I shall. :)
In regards to the W11 update, I'd wait until end of year at least before doing it, let others sort out some of the bugs.
File explorer memory leak: https://www.pcgamer.com/windows-11-file-explorer-memory-leak-bug/
Taskbar not updating: Intel networking has issues with dropping UDP.
Oracle VM not working: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/20536

Most of those supposedly have fixes incoming in the next patch (so should be 12th), but just wait a little while longer, no real reason to upgrade to W11 yet.

Thank you. You've convinced me to wait a while. :)

Im happy to be "an other" :p

Yep, but I have work things to do on my one machine and the other I don't want to be bothered in my off time, already debug code too much to deal with MS's stuff. :p
weak. Been running w11 om my dev box since preview build 1 :X3:

At least it's not bleeding edge arch Linux

Two issues so far -- I hate grouping on the taskbar. and no option for vertical taskbar.
Point 1: Explorer Patcher. The Task Bar can be configured to be 99.x% the same as Windows 10

Point 2: I think that the new version of Start Is All Back addresses both this and point 1, but it's a paid app.

That right there is a dealbreaker for me.

Typical MS mentality to force their choices down our throats.

Oom Billy knows best. I have learned to adept to the new "defaults" and not be to weird with my setup. I so miss the seconds in the system tray clock regedit that is no longer working, but I can do without it.

Important thing to remember if you clean install - monitor drivers with the correct ICM! I never used HDR with my monitor on Windows 10 but the new driver from LG released for Windows 11 (and 10) makes this 4K monitor look amazing.

Loving it so far - apart from the 2nd clean install I did yesterday because I initially when with an online account and my user folder was rouxe instead of Paul an no hacks worked to rename it.
