Windows 11 Support Thread

Have you tried booting to powershell / command prompt?

When my Win10 was borked after an update, I ended up removing the update through the command line after finding a guide.
Yeah I tried. Unfortunately it was unable to remove the update.

I want to test my SSD tonight and see if it's not due to corruption. This is one of two SSD's that I bought. The other one had to be replaced by Wootware.

What display adapter are you using? I have no issues and I am running the latest non-WHQL AMD driver for my integrated Vega 8 graphics.

Latest Nvidia drivers on a 2080.

There was a Logitech G Hub update that came through yesterday too. And I thought it odd that it was taking so long to install.

I'll do some testing tonight though to see if I can find the culprit. I really hope it's not the SSD.

*edit*

I just remembered that I was playing around with Dolby Atmos and the sound settings last night.

My Windows 11 experience has been great until this morning. Started up my PC and when it logs in I just get a black screen with a cursor. Task Manager opens and then immediately closes again when I start it.

Tried lots of different ways of fixing it but in the end I had to do a Windows Reset which is sucky.

I had a Windows Update before the problems but was unable to remove it or go back to a system restore.
Are you using "Start All Back" to optimise the task bar, Windows menu, etc? I have found that my PC does the black-screen thing after it does a power-cycle.

The quickest way to fix it is to select "Restart" on the login screen, instead of entering the password / pin. (Disabling fast boot may also sort it - I need to try some time)

I did run without Start All Back for a while and this is definitely the cause, but it is just too convenient to remove...

No I don't use that.

I do however see that my SSD health has dropped to 85%. It was at 95% in December.

I'll keep an eye on everything. After the Windows Reset I reinstalled some things and everything appears to be running fine.

I should maybe try restart though!

What does start all back?

Is there any hack to undo combining taskbar icons/windows, that means you need to mouse over to select the window you want if you have 2 windows of the same program open?

That's 1 of it's functions.

Turns out my laptop does not actually support Windows 11.
Have a 6th Gen Core i5 CPU :X3:
Oh well not going to cry myself to sleep about it

No, just enable TPM and Secure Boot then do a clean install. That is how I got 11 on my old AMD A10 and Ryzen 3 2200G.

Ah well ... not missing anything with this Vista II (tm) release.

Stay with W10.

Rolled back a number of laptops and desktops... just such a bugfest release.. eye-candy loses its' appeal after a few days... Windows 11 = MEH MEH MEH!

/rant off

I think you may have inferior hardware that is not future proof.

Even going so far back as Windows Me I never had issues with new versions of Windows because I used the proper drivers.

Hmmm...

Dell G3 3779s 32GB RAM 6GB 1060ti NVMe SSD, Core i9-7900X 128GB RAM plus Quadro A4000 GPU NVMe SSD and a smattering of 10th Gen i5s (8GB RAM and SSDs)... Windows 11 is the meh... this brainfart of Windows 10-with-a-skin will eventually morph into a usable Windows 12... just like Windows 7 did, and also just like Windows 10 did.

Are there any easy hacks to install 11 on so called unsupported hardware?
Newish i5 8GB RAM and ssd so it'll have no issues running it.

Neato - although I prefer having it in place. Not too worried about the CPU support though. It ran fine on my A10.

Might give this Rufus version a try on the J1900 Celeron I have for a week.
