Windows 11 Support Thread

The option to disable the pen icon is greyed out.

So greyed out but in the ON position? ... that was either done via script or in GPO

Try the reg files ...

Thanks @Dimpie (COMPUTEK) the Hide pen icon reg file did the trick :)

At work yes but at home no (hence me trying.) Just a bog standard internet connection at home.

Edit: Was using FF, just tried Edge and it's working. MS clearly want me to switch lol.
If you maybe have Windscribe as a plugin on ff I find it sometimes activates itself if you don't have it on...

Does anyone know what these "box" looking icons are at the bottom left of my desktop icons are? Sometimes there's green ticks in place of the box icon. I'm not sure what the purpose of it is.

I have Bitdefender Internet Security, so not sure if it might be Bitdefender adding these checkmarks, or if it's a Windows thing?

Never seen that before.

Well with more digging and research, it seems it has do do with OneDrive. The box icon means that files are available locally, and the green tick means that the files have been backed up.

I most certainly do NOT wont OneDrive on my machine. I never had it, and blocked it from being a startup app in Win11, but Microsoft got sneaky and re-enabled it I'm guessing. I'll just uninstall it completely.

They often reinstall it when they release major updates, cnts.

I use OneDrive extensively and I've never seen anything resembling those icons.

It's definitely OneDrive. It's their icons;

I disabled OneDrive when I set up my PC a few years ago - you can't uninstall it. It's part of Win 11 now, but I disabled syncing and disabled it from starting with Windows, but this cockroach is still crawling through after updates I guess.

OneDrive disabled in Task Manager;

OneDrive syncing turned off in Windows settings;

So not sure how to disable it even more?

So I've disabled App List Backup and Preferences backup in OneDrive settings too, but the icons are still there. The icons come and go.

I need to do more digging...

Update! Icons gone!

So I uninstalled OneDrive, However you can't uninstall it from the normal Control Panel -> Programs or Features page. The app doesn't exist there. You have to go into the new Settings page from the search bar and delete the app from the Apps tab there. WTF Microsoft??
