Windows 7, 8, 8.1 I need guidence

Hey. Well formatted my pc and now I don't know what the best OS is to use.

I had windows 7 installed

Also before
I had normal windows 8 I hated it nothing worked properly.

But was wondering if the software got better now

Any suggestions?

I use 8.1 at work and once I got used to it it became very easy to use. Never used 8 though.
 
If you had Windows 8 and "nothing worked properly" then I suggest you rather stick with Windows 7.

As for me I had Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1 and it worked perfectly from day one.
 
Windows 8/8.1 is quite cool, but I find that drivers are still an issue for older hardware. If your hardware is fairly recent (1-2 years old) from reputable vendors, you shouldn't have in issue. If it is older, or from vendors who don't update their drivers often, you might run into problems.

You should also install Classic Shell (free) or Start8 (paid-for) to get the Windows 7 style start menu back, and get rid of the horrible Start screen. Both apps are pretty good, but you will still find some issues with both of them. You won't be able to truly get the Windows 7 menu back completely.

Now I am really confused. What did you have on your PC before formatting it?

Sorry for that.

What i meant was I had win 7 installed prior to the format.

On a side note I do have experience with windows 8 on other computers of mine.
 
Why are you guys carrying on about the fekking start menu so much? What do you want to do on it?

Win + S = problem sorted.

Because there is so much more to the Start Menu than simply searching for stuff. All of the important shortcuts are a few clicks away, with no keyboard use required.

I can pin my most commonly used programs, and under each of these, pin my most commonly-used documents/shortcuts/tasks.

To sleep/hibernate/switch user/shutdown/reboot - each of these are 2-3 clicks away, instead of 5-10 key-presses. If I want a list of my all my programs, it's there. I might not remember that name of the app I am looking for, but if I have a quickly accessible list, I can visually scan the list until I find what I am looking for.

I have quick access to the control panel, recent items, and anything and everything I would like.

On Windows 7, the start menu would allow you to search for local documents/files, as well as those on network shares. Win + S does not do this.
 
I agree the start menu is actually essential. If I go back to 7 it would be, because of the start menu.

That is a gem
