Windows 7 minus IE

Microsoft on Thursday said regulatory wrangling has prompted it to strip Internet Explorer Web browsers from copies of its Windows 7 operating system to be sold in Europe

this is a good news! :-)

+100000000

And for those idiots on other forums complaining, how does I install teh internets then... there are plenty ways to install another browser or even your favourite Internet Explorer.

This is pretty stupid in my opinion, some noob user buys a pc and then has to wonder HTF to get on the internet. How does IE mess with our lives exactly? What is so bad about having it install with windows? Does microsoft lock it and make you unable to install another browser?

How does one download a web broswer if they are pretty clueless with pc's? I think the idiots are the ones who complain about microsoft having a web browser, i mean honestly this is just crazy.

Agreed, but it's M$, so people will find reason to piss and moan.

LOL...

How do you download a browser without a browser?

Well, many ways. Including downloading it at work and saving it on a flash disk. This is not a problem really.

I'm pretty sure its just the UI that wont be configured/avaliable by default, the underlying plumbing will still be there.

My guess would be the default desktop will include some icons like "Get IE" & "Get Firefox" etc.

Well i sure hope so roman.

Noob pc user gets home, plugs in and tries to get onto the internet. Not knowing about Firefox or anything wonders why he cannot connect to the net.

Phones tech support and asks how do i get on the net, tech says you need a browser, man says why does it not come with one? tech says because idiotic people moan about BS all day long and now you suffer :p so bring your pc in and we will charge you an hour labour and install a web browser for you.

I understand it is microsoft and everyone hates them but people want a pc you can use out the box.

Honestly, do you think a noob is going to sit their playing solitaire indefinitely cause he can't access the internet? Secondly, being a noob they will buy their computer with everything already installed... if they installing Windows themselves, I'm sure they have the brains to install a simple browser.

Ways you can get it without a browser...
Thumb drive
Copy it to a CD
FTP over command line
Get help from the garden boy.

LOL - never even thought of that :D

Would you like to explain how to my mother?

Personally, I think its stupid - Its an MS operating system, so why couldn't it be shipped with an MS browser.

There are people in rural parts that still use 56k modems - sure they're going to love downloading a browser.

Yea but cookie you seem to miss the very simple problem here, you need to actually go and install a flippin browser and not everyone gives a crap if they use IE or firefox, it is only the microsoft haters who punt this sort of idiotic stuff.

Not everyone wants to get a thumb drive, copy to a cd, ftp over a command, they want to load up their pc and start browsing, if they are so clever they use IE to download the latest version of their favourite broswer, install and select it as the default.

I think the brain donors are ones happy about this as they seem to fail at understanding microsoft does not enforce IE on you, it is there for people to use the net without having to mission. My mother or even father would not have a clue how to install a broswer, so cookie you think everyone who uses a pc knows so much? Dude i must say your out look on this is so idiotic in my opinion.

Amazing what people will moan about these days.

I actually don't think a lot people even know you get different browsers...

They don't rapid and this is why its the most idiotic thing i have ever heard in my life, according to cookie every single person on this planet is tech savvy with pc's.

I feel sorry for the people who are not tech savvy because they are in for a shock of note and as you say people with 56k modems are as well.

At least those idiots who hate microsoft will happy because internet explorer is like the plague that destroys computers and ruins lives :p, in fact one night explorer took over my pc, it also ate firefox and raped my opera. Also when i loaded my other broswer internet explorer shut my pc down and fried my mobo to spite me because it's anti competitive mechanism kicked in :D.

I think leave it up to the consumer in the end.
Win 7 is M$ product anyways...they can include whatever they want in the package IMO.
Especially for those who do not know how to install other browsers at least something is there for them to use.
On the other hand if they are to remove it in the EU then I agree with Roman4604 to include some icons like "Get IE" & "Get Firefox" etc.

I've never agreed with these EU rulings and I don't use Windows, at the end of the day microsoft are offering more for the consumer by bundling stuff.

You probably find someone's eventually going to bitch that Microsoft bundles MS Word with its own spell checker.

Most of you advanced users give some of us a bad name with your condescending tones mostly caused by your hatred of M$.

They are running a business. They are competing with so many browser manufacturers and none of them are really playing fair. Is anyone shouting at Apple for including Safari on their OX? Is M$ making noise about not being included in Linux - and yes I am aware of proprietary apps and open-source but surely some of you who are capitalists understand the need for browser bundling.

To give you an example, when I was starting from ground zero, I avoided Ubuntu because it didnt have MP3 codecs and required me to Google ways of getting it and installing it. All I wanted back then was to just use a PC! I see how it benefits Linux for M$ to not include a browser; we'll all shout that Linux distros come with all suites, browsers, office, etc included.

Aqua microsoft offer you stuff that makes windows work, they do not enforce these programs nor do they block the use of other programs, this is why i find this sort of thing ridiculous. You are free to use any software you like, people act like microsoft force IE on you which is far from the truth, they just make windows work out the box just like a mac or linux.

Yea that is very good point, let's all go after mac for including safari in their OS. I wonder if these idiots will go after windows media player soon, what about notepad?
