Windows 7 minus IE

killadoob. yes it's not enforced on the actual user, but as most people don't know of any other browsers or are too lazy to even update their old ones, which is why IE6 is still wafting around it is enforced on the web developer.

With Microsoft always being behind with each incarnation of their browser, not to mention the 6 years they took to update IE6. Web developers are limited to what Microsofts browsers can do, which is still IE6 and can't make use of any of the new features the new browsers are implementing.

What's stopping Microsoft from doing the same, they only updated IE6 because of competition?

Moaning, I was rejoicing they not including it in Windows 7, you moaning about having to install a browser...

I concur...
If you have a problem with M$ bundling stuff then use another OS where you can download your own stuff for it.
And why are they bundling FireFox with Linux...I know its open source and freeware. But its the same thing. Also Apple bundles their Safari browser in OS X same applies here...

Aqua microsoft offer you stuff that makes windows work, they do not enforce these programs nor do they block the use of other programs, this is why i find this sort of thing ridiculous. You are free to use any software you like, people act like microsoft force IE on you which is far from the truth, they just make windows work out the box just like a mac or linux.

That's what I'm saying this makes no sense, this is just something for lawyers to make a quick buck from.

yes but then the people who need more than IE are tech savvy enough to use something else, your normal average user does not care about anything but being able to surf the net, they may stumble upon firefox, opera and the like but they can without a mission surf the net.

My dad for instance loves firefox only because i installed it for him, without me he would not have any flippin idea what to do with windows that has no browser.

Your outlook on this is very silly and you seem to assume everyone is an advanced pc user. I am not moaning about having to install a browser i use firefox so for me it is not a problem, my issue is for the people who have no clue about such things that will have no browser and more than likely have no clue you get 5 other browsers and no clue how to install a browser.

IE 6 works fine for browsing the net or is there something i am missing? Does it not browse the internet and work? IE 8 will be on windows 7 if i am not mistaken so why are you going on about ie 6?

Let me share this with you:

My boss actually bought a new laptop for R9k when I was away on leave and someone allowed IE 7 upgrade on his XP machine. He was not familiar with the interface and made a lot of noise about it. Many reasons but mostly he doesn't have the time to learn new interfaces and would still not change to M$ Office 2007. All he wants to do is browse, email his proposals and read attachments. THAT'S IT!

He is not concerned about rendering engines, javascript/css errors, fancy plugins, etc. He wants to run his business (online BTW) and could not care about speed typing. He just wants something that works!

Yes, good if he learns something new but not at an expense of losing time or money - he actually emphasizes that he pays IT Tech for that.

I'm sorry, your view is very short sighted. Look at the bigger picture. You just answered every question why IE shouldn't be bundled... "your normal average user does not care about anything but being able to surf the net", "My dad for instance loves firefox only because i installed it for him, without me he would not have any flippin idea what to with windows that has no browser."

People should be given the choice which browser they want installed, it's the only way the internet is going to progress. Hopefully with this exercise some app is created to allow people to easily download a browser of THERE choice and is included with every os including OSX, and Linux...

If things just stay the same everyone will continue using Microsoft, and if Microsoft doesn't keep up with their browser developments they will always be holding the internet back. Understand this, the internet is not a book, it's not going to stay the same indefinitely. These "average" not caring what browser they use, are just spiting themselves.

Lastly, I don't want IE out of the picture, they are another competitor. Just every other browser should have the same right to the chance of getting installed on a users machine.

They have a choice for goodness sake, if they choose to run firefox they load it and use it thus choosing not to use ie.

Logic 101 states that just because microsoft bundle a browser it is no way limiting people from using another browser. You have a choice and you are assuming people will choose to go with another browser, you are in fact trying to force people to use alternatives. Amazing really. Give people the choice as you say, if they like IE they can continue using it, if they don't they can load any broswer they like because they have a CHOICE.

This is a bad move.
How many people are gonna be completely stifled by this.
And where exactly are they gonna get their browsers from????

err... they do have a choice.
Simply use IE, go to the Firefox website and download it.

Please stop contradicting yourself, if they don't know of any other browsers, how is it they have a choice!? They don't know of any other browser because one comes installed. Catch a wake up.

Most idiotic news i have read in a while :-) I mean really...a OS without a default browser, ludicrous! Thats like selling a car without wheels, cos it stifles competition in the "wheel industry".

LOL @ how do you get a browser without a browser!!!! BWhahahahaha... +10 to that comment!!!! I am sure that will give end-users more reason to hate Ms.

PS: before i get hammered, i prefer firefox to IE, but still think this is really dumb. Oh and IE8 is my default browser at home now, giving Ms some "us-time".

Why should Microsoft provide a base for the 'opposition'? It is perfectly logical that Microsoft will bundle it's own product rather than someone else's. I would have thought this makes perfect sense.

Because they wipe out other companies left right and centre bundling their own software. Now they on to free antivirus, I know they wouldn't dare bundle that... but still.

They do have a choice and at least now they have a tool (IE) that enables them to execute that choice easily. You buy ms products, you get ms products. Go get a linux based distro if you dont want IE in the equation AT ALL.

Oh...and....er...catch a wake up :-)

This is pointless, I suppose, the masses will always go in one direction. Good luck sheep. :p

I wish they would bundle it. But leavinbg me with the choice to install it or not. Like windows firewall, i dont have to use it.

You make no sense. You say you don't want IE out of the picture because it is competition, yet you complain about Microsoft 'wiping companies out'. Competition is fine, just not if it's too strong? Please.

Too strong? Software companies spend millions developing their software, Microsoft comes along, "oh, that's a nifty idea lets include it for free in our next os". Do you not know what the EU is on about, don't you read?
