Wordpad - destroys lotus123, open office, and wordperfect!
Notepad - utra edit, notepad2, edit!
MS Games... OMG, they are destorying the games market!
Paint... ish, amazed gimp/photoshop etc etc arent suing either!
And windows explorer ... takes away those file explorers? when last did you see a file explorer other than Window Explorer? see? pushed em out of business sue sue sue!
Desktop themes? that start bar is crushing taskbar makers... OMG, the mouse pointer isn't made by a mouse pointer making company, MS killed them off too!!!

HOLY **** ... just realised that Windows has it's own clock on the taskbar... WTF MS... there goes BILLIONS, Zimbabwe was the major clock makers for OS... this is why the currency collapsed!!!

Ja, Windows comes without a lot of things I take for granted in Linux.

I'm still not sure if they ripped out the mshtml control along with IE. If they did I will have a problem because I have apps that are dependant on that to function :(

Ok so for someone who only uses IE and is happy doing so, they should go find someone who can actually log onto the internet and then cut then a disk.

Would be rather funny if someone supplies them with a disk that contains IE8 :p, i think if i a was pc noob i would freak :D

For the average pc noob, what does firefox honestly do more than IE?

Let's get this question answered just for interest sake, for some average pc user who wants to look at his daily internet stuff what does firefox offer over IE? Even safari or chrome. Sure maybe they load pages 1ms faster but other than that they all do the same basic thing for a basic user :).

Many magazines have the latest FF on their disks. A friend could make one or write onto a flash disk. Internet cafe? Friendly computer shop. etc.

What will probably happen is MS will supply IE with Windows, but separately. The shop can then also supply whatever browser you like.

In your effort to defend anti-competitive behaviour you've missed the point. It isn't about the capability of any browser, but rather about choice.

In fact IE has always lagged behind in browser technology. Remember Netscape and what happened with that?!?

ATM MS doesn't want you to use another browser and makes it difficult for you to do so.

You don't pay R3,000 for Ubuntu Retail OR Ubuntu is not the ONLY operating system you're likely to find at your local PC shop. Even among Linux distros Ubuntu is not the ONLY distro, you could get an alternative easily. In the commercial world, short of a few Netbooks, all PCs only offer a choice of Windows Vista More bloat or less bloat and a few BETTER retailers offer XP, but these are all MS OSes.

Windows got where it got through some underhanded tactics and then took advantage of its unique position to put IE (MS made it part of the OS and lied that you couldn't remove it) in a special privileged position.

MS doesn't supply DVD burning software (with XP) or with crippled versions of Vista. Even Vista Ultimate Orgasm Edition doesn't have as many features as a basic OEM installed DVD burning application. These all come from the OEM.
 
stupid, stupid, stupid. There are starving kids in Africa, and this is what the EU chooses to spend their money fighting???

Seriously, If they want to increase choice or options, then go on an educational campaign, promote the other browsers, give them free ad time on European TV, give them away on free CDs.

But this requirement is just petty.... and stupid.

He doesn't have to. The OEM or someone else will put an icon on his desktop "Install browser" and that will point either to an installer of FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari or IE (or more than one) on his hard drive. MS doesn't bundle AV, DVD burners, Trusted Computing applets, Recovery software, special drivers and control panels for controlling things like your WiFi or BlueTooth; yet these things magically appear in the recovery image and on the installation you get from the shop and are included on additional CDs.


This is what PCs in the 90s had. When you installed your ISP account (dial up) you received your browser with that and not an OS. It was the ISP which included a browser and the ISP could do a deal with Netscape or Mosaic, later IE. You got a CD from iAfrica and that had an installer, that installed a dial up connection, a browser, a control panel sometimes and allowed you to activate your account or generate an account at iAfrica, enter your details, password, desired email address, banking details or credit card info etc.

People didn't go crazy then or panic, why should they do that now?

So EC must now pay for ads for MS competitors?

As for kids in Africa, the EU give a ton of aid already. I can assure you kids don't die in Africa because of a lack of aid. That's off topic anyway.
