Hi guys and girls..

Who here upgraded to windows 8?
I'm thinking of upgrading, it’s so cheap.

What are your thoughts on windows 8?
Using it for everyday work, navigation, performance etc.
Did you come across any issues with the brand new OS?
I'm just not sure if I will ever get used the "tablet look" and no start menu.
I don’t really want to add 3rd party apps to get the start menu back.
Would you go back to windows 7 ?

Regards :)

If you up to learning a new way of using your PC (Windows 8 Style User Interface and Normal Desktop Mode), I would say, go for it. I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, it was worth it. Windows 8 feels faster than Windows 7, uses less RAM than Windows 7, and my games give me more frames per second on Windows 8 than Windows 7.

The only issue that I am getting now is that when I log in, I get a black screen with a mouse cursor on it. I happens twice or three times a week now.

Upgrade was easy and I love it. The only thing you need to learn is how to use shortcut keys. The rest of the changes are quick to adapt to.

I first updated the wife lappie and she loved it so I decided to update mine. Laptops are both basic and we do see a performance increase.

I love it, takes a bit of practice to get used too but once you find your way around you wont want to go back. My PC is so much faster too!

Is it beneficial to go from Windows Vista Business to Windows 8 in terms of performace? Vista really sucks, as I found out, upgrading an XP C2D 1.6GHz 2GB machine to Vista - because the laptop's recovery CD only had that. Will I get better performance?

I have 7 on two other machines, both have slower CPUs and both seem to do better.

Much, much better performance. It'll halve your current boot time, that's for sure.

I love Windows 8... bootup time is much faster than Windows 7 !!

Regarding no startup button - that takes some time to get used to the new interface.

You can always install a programme called `classic shell'.

The latest version of Classic Shell lets you bypass the Start screen even faster. It also adds jump lists to the main menu. And you can now search for and launch Windows Store apps directly from the program's submenu.

You can download it from http://www.classicshell.net/

I primarily still use Win 7 Ult, just like the old school feel if you will. I have Win 8 on my laptop, but found it a steep learning curve - having said that, once you are used to shortcuts and where everything is, it works well.
