Hi there

Hope this is the right thread.

Having endless issues installing windows 7. when I try installing windows it tells me there is no hard drive and can not figure out what the problem is.

In bios it picks up the hard drive and tried changing the sata port with no luck.

It is a samsung Hard drive 250gb with a gigabye g31m-s2c motherboard. anybody got any idea what the problem could be. tried searching google with no luck and need the machine up and running soon as it is for a new employee at the office.

thanks guys

PM a mod and ask them to move this to the Software forum....

Windows 7 doesnt come with Sata driver like Vista did, as the new motherboards make the sata drive look like an IDE drive. therfore you need to make a SATA floppy disk with the driver on it and install like you would have in XP.
I hope this help, anyway thats the problem I had when installing 7 on my old XP mechine.

I had the same problem, then i loaded Vista over XP and then Win 7 on top of it and it worked.

Vista and windows 7 use usb sticks now not stiffy.

Have you checked in the bios that the mobo is set to ide and not sata? if it is set to IDE change to sata.

I had this issue with XP a long time ago, and I had to change some setting relating to the hard drive to legacy or something like that.
