Windows 8.1 goes live

Already tried. Cannot be downloaded. App store on PC just hangs as there is no file to download. Online App store gives a permission error when trying to download the update. Probably not available to SA as yet.

Where do you guys even find these horrendous article images that have nothing to do with the post?

Just downloaded it. Where is the Start button hiding? No noticeable difference in Look & Feel of Win8

They never said they were bringing back the start menu, only sensationalist morons pshyched themselves up and got all exited about the return of the start menu.

And here goes the Internets down the plughole again

Unlikely, it is downloading off local for me :) (ping is high because I am downloading 8.1 right now)

Download is crawling for me. Tried first through the Windows Store and it averages about 30KB/s. Downloading the ISO through my Action Pack subscription and it's doing about 70KB/s.

I've heard similar reports from others who are trying to download it. Here's to hoping it speeds up.

I installed this last week from our MSDN sub. If you have any type of VPN software installed like juniper or Cisco this will break those and any other normal VPN connection you have (error 720). Uninstall and re-install to fix..Otherwise....I want to say that it seem a bit faster and responsive like the new features. Especially boot to desktop..thank goodness for that.

Hi Guys
I have the Windows Store App open but don't see anything, how do I download windows 8.1 from the store?

Windows 8.1 review:
http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/17/4845142/windows-8-1-review

GOOD STUFF
Free for Windows 8 users
Great new Snap Views for side-by-side apps
Bing search integration
SkyDrive sync improvements

BAD STUFF
Still awkward to control with traditional keyboards and mice
A lack of Windows 8-style apps
No true windowing on Windows 8 style apps, full-screen
Lack of desktop improvements

So STILL no option to completely disregard Metro and use the actual desktop? Thanks for listening Microsoft.........

Look.. I'm not a huge ms fan but you obviously didn't look properly

Boot to desktop and you don't need to look at metro ever again

Started downloading it at about 12:45 or so, it's now on "Applying changes".

It's taking one helluva long time probably due to the download part.

Feel sorry for people who need to do it on more than one device...

Actually that's the one thing I left out of my previous post...Ready yourself for 2.5 hours on an upgrade. It sat on 58% to 70% for an hour from disk....So I don't think it's because of the download necessarily...

I'm running an i7 with 16GB ram and 240GB Solid state drive

Jesus, I don't have a fscking tablet and because I do not have one I do not WANT Metro. All 8.1 does is make Metro slightly less dumb-ass.

Myself and many many others like metro on a desktop. I personally wouldn't go back to 7. If you have such an issue with it why don't you just install 7?

I started downloading ISO. Its almost done, problem is does it save it somewhere, because I have 7 machines to upgrade??
